Silver Nitrate

Earlier today a teacher who had ordered Copper wire and Silver Nitrate solution for a displacement reaction asked me if the Silver Nitrate was expensive.
I had absolutely no idea as I haven't had to buy any in the almost 20 years that I have been here due to the amount that was in the Chemical Store already.
So I looked it up and found yes it is very expensive, $117 for a 25gm jar.
Then back to the Chemical Store to see just how much I still had left.
I still have 478gms gms of Silver Nitrate. At the current price it is worth over $2,000
Makes me wonder just how money is tied up in the Chem store.

I'm keeping it for the next 20 years.
Not that I will be here that long, 2 years will see me out.
Hopefully we wont have to buy any for quite some time.
Pity it is the same with the amount of Potassium Dichromate, Potassium Chromate, Lead salts, mercury salts. etc.
There heaps of those also.

Years ago, Now this is showing my age, ha ha, we had to say which experiments where done in your school, and of course, they requested you on your chemicals, of not realizing that a 5ml was enough for 500ml or something like that, so they just sent you a whole bottle of it, Some of the stains Merylene orange I could of sold to other schools.
