I have been a few times before to CONASTA and there has always been relevant things for Lab Techs, especially the workshops.

Hi
Just wondering what goals you are putting in your PDP? As there is no training in Science that's a dead end. Are you just writing down what you want to achieve in your school/prep area?
Cheers

How can you guys get no training in science? Part of school accreditation is for every staff member to be trained and have continuing professional development. In fact the WHS legislation states that adequate training must be provided.

Good question, linotas.

Labbie, excuse my ignorance, but how would French Polishing be related to science?

Sorry perhaps its not french polishing, fire up the bunsen and polish the ends of sharp things, chipped good beakers, funnels glass of course, and we use to make our own stirring rods. I feel sure its French Polishing,??? Perhaps you are thinking of the wood french polishing. Sorry Glass fusing, our teacher use to call the French polishing glass. Sorry every one. :w00t:

Go to CONASTA if you can, I went to my first one in Sydney this year and while it is aimed at Teachers, there are a number of workshops that are useful for Lab Techs to do. Fire polishing is what its called I believe, just don't pick up the glass stirring rod by the wrong end. I have put down visiting other school science areas. Updating Safety Data Sheets that are expired or close to expiring

My SAM won't let me put in things like updating SDSs because it's just a part of my duties.
I have to 'learn something new' or 'develop an existing skill'. So I can use 'learning how to bend glass tubing' which involves visiting other schools. And I can use Chemwatch training.

Mine is going well, had my mid year review last term and passed with flying colours!

Don't forget to put down networking with other labbies. I'm sure Chemtalk counts for that one!!!

Any possibility of seeing how and what words you guys put in your PDP's

EG How do you put your ideas into an acceptable sentence ? .....I know its a strange question but I still don't know exactly how I'm meant to fill the template out

Anyone care to scan theirs ( name etc blanked out ) just so I can get an idea of what you are doing

PDP in DET

Post by remlap12 »

Hi all,

I've searched everywhere and can't find any conversations re: PDP's. (I know there are some here somewhere!!)
So forgive me for asking again.........but what do you all, who are employed by the DET, put down for your work and career goals?
It's such a waste of time, because if you put down any courses you'd like to do or learn new skills in any other areas within the school nothing happens anyway! (at my school at least!)
Of course it has to be in by today

TIA
Helen

bigmack,
It hasn't necessarily been refused, it's just no one gets around to it..............
I somehow didn't save a copy of my 2020 PDP and I can't for the life of me remember what I put in it! The SAM can't find it either
To be honest,I'm content with what I'm doing don't really have work or career goals, I'm just trying to make it to retirement!! :cheesy:
