Are you in a union? It may be worth speaking to them as it should apply to all science teachers, groundsmen, manual arts teachers and aides too. They may have come across it before.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!
If you really think about EVERY person handles hazardous chemicals at some stage every week..
do you fill up your car with petrol? Do you use bleach to clean your bathroom? do you fill your mower with 4 stroke? Your whipper snipper with petrol?
Do you use electricity? I know it is not a hazardous chemical but it is hazardous!
I could go on!
Try another bank or building society - they do NOT deserve your business!

Such passion sunray18. I wish I could change banks but we cant at the moment. I agree on your passionate statements above. it seems all st george want to protect is home loans from office workers. I doubt you could get it if you worked in a photocopy room even. Low risk workers so they dont have to pay out eva.
i didnt even tell them i also work at a second job, petrol station, lol.

Hi Superbug,
we are with St George & only refinanced with them the end of last year, I was never asked about hazardous chemicals.
Maybe ask for someone higher up to have a look at your situation.
Cheers

Hi Liz,

This is for home loan protection insurance- it is a type of insurance to cover your home loan repayments if something happens and you cant work. so depending on the type of work you do means they wont cover high risk occupations. they are quite happy to increase our borrowing just not take the risk if something goes wrong to pay up.
