new lab (s)

Post by smeee »

Just sharing couple of pics of one of my new labs. Lockable trolley benches can be rearranged.Retort stand can be seen and other equipment - benchmat, bunsen, tripod, wire gauze, bosshead and clamp, brass tongs, test tube rack, test tube holder are all in a labelled tray under the bench. Any other equipment is in the preproom and provided as needed usually in kit form. There are 2 adjoining classrooms ( for each of the 2 labs ) for the written work...no chairs/stools in the lab. Labs only used for pracs so should be easy to keep tidy & clean. TV monitors are in the labs and classrooms if teachers need to show any instructions etc...
The purple and green colour scheme grows on you...the floor is mauve/purple as well.

They look great in general. \:D/

I think all of us who have got new labs and prep rooms are just so so lucky :clap3: .
We all have had a few teething problems :cry2: but when you think what we once had [-o< who really cares about the little problems. Well not me anyway they are worth it in the long run.

Have fun in your new labs. Sit back and enjoy you deserve to. :coffee:

Hi Smee,
We are doing new labs in the future, so I'm very interested in what you have. Are those trolleys between sink unit able to be wheeled away?
All looks lovely and shiny. Best way to keep it like that, is ban any pracs!!
Cheers, Ellice 8)

Me too! \:D/

Reminds me of my old Prep Room at my other school a few years before the refurb, when the female staff in the labs on either side decided to paint their rooms. One door into the P/R was purple and the other was orange (on their sides), so I painted mine green! It made a huge difference having such bright colours around us

The labs look great. I'm so jealous! My labs are approximately 38 years old and don't look like being refurbished.

LOVE the new labs and the colour scheme! Seems we're unlikely to get new labs at the moment and our labs are old!! Work was to have happened but has been withdrawn. I guess at least I don't have to pack up the place - my back is dodgy at the best of times!

smeee these labs look great, and the colour scheme just gives it a post-modern feel to it, very space-age. Makes me want to enrol in your school so I can use the lab. :giggle: How do you feel about a mature age student who will help you clean up after prac is finished?

Oh well, I may just have to settle for sneaking about over the christmas holidays and painting all our white doors in rainbow colours. :clap3:

UPGRADE PREP ROOM

Post by Vick »

I am wondering if someone from a NSW DEC school could post a couple of photos of a refurbished prep room. One out of 6 of our labs (40 year old) plus the adjoining prep room is going to be refurbished. The prep room is currently being used as the science staff room and some of teachers can't understand that we can't tell the Dept how we want the room refurbished. I have told them that the Dept will do the prep room the same as every other refurbished prep room in the state, I thought if I can show them some photos it might help them understand!

Thank you for your help.

Hi Vicki,

Do a search on here for New Labs Pic - Noona posted some photos for us of her new labs. Many other related threads at that time. If you look for Lab refurbishment it'll bring them up.

There are also photos on the Intranet, probably in Asset Management.

Hope you find what you're looking for!

Liz,

I have searched and searched "lab refurbishment" I can find numerous posts under different headings but I can't find any attached photos. I have also looked at the Asset Management Directorate on the intranet but still can't find any photos. Any ideas?

Thanks

Vicki

Thanks for merging the threads, Sue. Unfortunately, that photo’s of a private school lab.
Ours aren’t quite so flash!

Sorry you couldn’t find them, Vick. I did search myself before posting earlier, and have just done so again, so here are my results –
This one will provide photos of noona’s labs: New Labs Pic Author: noona

While this one is a comprehensive discussion from the beginning :

Hope this helps.

I have a lot of the photos off the Intranet saved to my computer so could email them to you if you PM your DEC address.

Meanwhile I'll do a search there myself and see if they are still available for you to tell the teachers where to find them.
