liquid nitrogen illawarra purchase

Post by lab-woman »

Just wondering if anyone in the illawarra area has purchased liquid nitrogen recently and if so, where from and approx how much did it cost?
Year 12 physics teacher wants to do a demo with his class.
Thanks everyone.

I'm in Tamworth (nowhere near the Illawarra, I know!), and we purchase our liquid nitrogen from our local BOC, they lend us an old dewar for free and the nitrogen costs about $5-$6 a litre. Should be similar there, we are under the government pricing system.
Have fun!

Hi, I'm in the penrith area (I know ,no where near illawarra either) and we got our liquid nitrogen from Ace Cryogenics. They were brilliant, easy delivery and pick up of dewar. We had to hire dewar $95 and 20 litres for $65. That lasted a full week so everyone that needed to do experiments were happy.

Also nowhere near you lab woman .

We only use it for the Yr12 Physics super conductor prac so hiring a 20 liter tank would be uneconomic .....however I believe it is a mandatory prac .
We get ours from the local Vet clinic up the road , $20 for nearly a liter .

Only problem is I have to go and get it .I think I got slammed for this before .
Some say we are not allowed to get it in our private cars .

However I do . We have a Dewer flask ( thermos flask ) with a vent in it . From the moment the liquid Nitrogen is decanted into the flask , it starts evaporating building up pressure in the flask ...that is why it is important to use a vented flask and make sure the vent is open as soon as its filled .
When driving , I have the windows open and now place it in a padded Esky in the back of the car .
My choice , My assessment of the risks and I am happy to do it for 3 years now .

Hi lab-woman,
I get dry ice from BOC at Wetherill Park.
Check with BOC Illawarra and see what happens.
