Hi, from a reasonably new labbie could I have some advice as to what solution to put in a voltameter so that it works reasonably quickly yet doesn't ruin the electrodes at the same time? We have found that after adding just a few drops of 2M H2 SO4 it is so slow - am wondering if you can use straight 0.1M or 1M acid, or 2M as the solution? What do people mostly use?
Thanks.

Re: voltameter
Hi I put in a good squirt of 6M sulfuric acid, and rinse well with distilled water after. MariaC
PS make sure the acid has mixed well in the water or nothing happens for ages.....

Re: voltameter
I use 1m sulphuric acid.
That way the I don't have to wait for the small amount of concentrated sulphuric acid to diffuse through the water.

Re: voltameter
I use 1M sodium sulfate with a few drops of universal indicator so the columns go green, pink and purple, everyone likes it but the stoppers around the electrodes have perished but I just cored new ones and replaced them. A bit of mucking around I know but all is good.
