Re: distilled water
We bought a still from SA that someone else on here recommended. It wastes no water and is very efficient, quiet and we haven't yet replaced the filters and the water still comes out fine. Saves wasting all the packaging and me going out to get it (as far as I know there is noone in my area that will deliver water).
Re: distilled water
Annette, you should have a "North Qld Batteries" somewhere along Ingham Road. They're the same company up here, and I buy De-min water for 50cents a litre. It's just easier than bothering with a still, and I reckon possibly cheaper per annum that any other method. At any rate, while you're waiting for your de-ionizer, check them out.
Cheers, K
Distilled Water
Hi All,
Just wondering what everybody does for distilled water. Is it cheaper and less wasteful to buy distilled water or is it better for use to buy a new water distiller (are they more efficient these days)?
Thanks

Re: Distilled Water
We mostly buy ours these days, with the old still kept as backup when the local shops don't have any in stock.
Not the most (cost/water) effecient way I know, but well enough for our small school's needs.
Also: Ye Olde Thread.

Re: distilled water
One school I worked at last year had one of these .
It's an airstill and can be bought from local Homebrew shops or online fore about $295.
They are dead simple to use. Just put 2 liters of water in it in the morning and before the days up , you have 2 liters if distilled water .....no mucking about with connecting hoses and wasting hundreds of liters of cooling water like traditional stills .
Sure its not the fastest still but it sits happily in the corner quietly doing its thing and auto shuts off when its done .
