We tried today using a blender, adding a small amount of water and then placing the result mush on a piece of filter paper but the tea...

Re: Upgrading of 800 science laboratories (NSW public schools on

Not strictly on the topic, but today we had vistors to the school from another High School and they took photos of the science rooms, not sure if it is was so they could get some ideas on how to make science rooms like retro (eg they have not been upgrade in around 40 years) or just wanted to have a...

Re: Lego Robotics and Lego Technic

I understand that a mini-factory ulitimately will be set up to demonstrate how robotics is or could be used in a factory environment. This would most likely consist of fixed but motorised machinary such as cranes but also could use moving robots

Lego Robotics and Lego Technic

Just a quick question: Does anyone use Lego Robotics kits, Lego Technic or a combination of both in Science? I am investigating the setting up a lab. specifically for the use of both these types of Lego based systems and am interested in positive or negative experiences people have had with them. Th...

The European Union uses a hazard system with a Black Xn on a orange sticker to identify a harmful substance and I have seen bottles of chemicals in my storeroom with this label on as well

I know the University down here store some chemicals on wooden shelves but in plastic cat litter type trays. We have a combination of shelves some glass with wire through it, some varnished wood ones and some Melamine type ones.

Re: End of financial year?????

I claim any safety equipment I provide, I mean I have a better pair of safety googles than the students that I buy for myself, lab coat/s and washing expenses, Shoes/boots. Travel, any costs associated with training that your school does not cover. It starts to get complicated if you do some work fr...

Re: Absolute zero on SBS

I believe Top Gear relates to Physics, acceleration, braking etc so it would be science related and therefore you are well within your rights to watch that at other times than your lunch break. Not sure if there is too much science in the Bill though. I have been caught watching Brainiac on a school...

I might have to start using gelatine as well, it would be a lot cheaper and easier to get hold of and the Peptone I have is extremely hard and it is annoying when I have to try and use it.

Re: Carpet in Science Labs

Yes we have a square of carpet not in the middle of the room but as soon as the students walk in 1 door of the Labs, that is where the students listen to the teacher or Lab. Tech! explaining what they are going to be doing. We have theory and Prac. science in the same labs as well.

Motic Microscopes

Was wondering if anyone has any maintenence tips for Motic SFC-100FL microsopes. As I have a number of these microsopes that the students have adjusted the screw behind the stage and now you cannot focus on the samples particularly on the 400x magnification. You can turn the coarse and fine focus to...

Get a shipping container bury it in the ground, fill around it with concrete, but somehow incorporate a way to get in and out of it and move the flammable cupboard from the photocopy room to the art room. I am sure the OHS/Workplace inspectors would say a similar thing about moving the cabinent if t...

Well let me just relate this little story that happened this morning regarding Agar plates. Last week I made some plates for a class using the mix that I found in a post on here and the microwave. Only needed 18 plates so that was fine, as the students needed a control and one that they used for an ...
