Hi Rosalie,
I have tried your suggestion of removing the droppers and capping the dropper bottles.
Now to leave them for a few weeks and see what happens!

Re: Iodine Solution
I have had the same problem with my dropper bottles fading to clear after a month or so. They are amber bottles but with a dropper and red rubber teat on the end. My stock solution (of the same concentration) is kept in the chem store in an amber bottle and this stays yellow for ever. I have tried k...

This is a ludicrous task that you have been asked to do. My teachers wouldnt be able to tell me what they ar...

Re: Can anyone be forced to work in Science?
I hear you smiley! I have 7 non science teachers that have been forced to take a science class this year. And I only have 2 and 1/2 science teachers. I have spent so much time this semester teaching teachers how to light a bunsen, what is an acid, how to use a microscope, what prac they should be do...

Re: Transport of chemicals
Pretty sure it's against the law and I wouldnt transport anything that falls into these categories: Liquids - all of them, wouldnt want a mess in my car. Solids - Corrosives, spontaneous combustables and oxidising agents - so virtually anything with a diamond on it. Both campuses need to have their ...

Re: Happy New Year
First day back for me today. Geee, it's hard getting back into it. I had a great two weeks in melbourne (boy, do my daughters love shopping!) and a week in Kalbarri (very relaxing, beach day, pub night!). The best thing about coming back today is that I have an airconditioner!!!!!! :clap3: :clap3: A...

Re: Textbooks - class sets or individual
we have class sets of text books and usually 3 different ones for each year level. Gives the teachers more flexibility and options with the extra books and of course if kids dont have their own book then they cant leave it at home. Makes it a lot cheaper for parents too. The downside is that homewor...

Re: Perth Lab 2009
Hi Sammy, yes the travel is the downside of pd. I have to travel from Dawesville but with the new freeway extension it will be much quicker this year. I attended a function at uwa last night took 70 mins there and 70 mins back, brilliant. Now if they could just make the freeway a bit more interestin...

Re: Do you give your opinion?
And who would be dragged over the coals if you didnt point out something that could be dangerous! I am very lucky here and more often than not, the teachers are asking me which prac they could do for each topic. Some days I think, why should I bother trying out their new experiments and making impro...

Re: Elephants Toothpaste
I use the same method as dime, the large (50ml) test tube and glass cover from gas jars. To test a variable, use temperature. Do one bottle of diet coke (and yes, must be a 2l bottle of diet coke) that has been in the fridge, one at room temperature and one that has been sitting in a bucket of very ...

Re: Manganese dioxide and hydrogen peroxide prac
Sorry, it was so long ago that I made it (plaster of paris with manganese dioxide) but from memory it was make up a slurry of plaster of paris and add enough powder to give it a nice black colour. Sorry I cant be more precise than that but it doesnt have to be an exact amount. Then pour it out to dr...

Re: Manganese dioxide and hydrogen peroxide prac
yes I mix it with plaster of paris and break into chunks too. Easier to clean up and easier for the kids to see that it is a catalyst as the chunk stays the same.

Re: Interactive whiteboards - do you use them?
A dvd/video player can be connected to the interactive whiteboard or a dvd can be played through a laptop computer that is connected (and you need a laptop to run the interactive whiteboard). From my understanding, if this is all you use a tv for then it can be replaced by the whiteboard and you wil...
