Re: Flame test kits

yes Rae, you are right, strontium carbonate is insoluble in water. I tried it anyway in the hope that some may soak into the popsticks but it wasnt very exciting. So I have ordered strontium chloride (and lithium chloride). We didnt want to give the kids the solid form of strontium carbonate because...

Re: Flame test kits

hi all,
I'm expanding my flame test solutions and want to know if I can use lithium carbonate instead of lithium chloride and strontium carbonate instead of strontium chloride. Just that I have the two carbonates already and would prefer to use them, rather than order more.

Re: prep room being used as a kitchen

How about a big notice on the fridge stating "Do not put your lunch in here or it will be thrown in the bin" or similar, and then follow though with the threat. A few hungry days should sort him out.

Re: Changing flower colours

I have used white agapanthas in food colouring, I split the stem into four and put each bit in a separate food colour. It takes a couple of days to get the colour change in the petals so in answer to the first question (how long should the flowers be in universal indicator) I would say at least 2 da...

Clip art for Science equipment

Does anyone have a good website for lab equipment drawings? I'm looking for one that has proper drawings of basic lab equipment, eg beaker, tripod etc that can be used in word documents, specifically for exam papers.

Prof Bunsen sell periodic table mugs and cups and also global warming mugs where the sea level rises when hot coffee is in the cup. Also disposable cups that turn blue with icy cold contents.

These do sound good. Has anyone tried keeping vinegar in these? The rubber teats deteriate if left on for any lenght of time. Do these plastic bottles have a full plastic lid/dropper that doesnt perish?

sorry matchstick but I agree with the others and would be annoyed if people couldnt call me by my name. This forum provides emotional back up for each other as well as lots of practical advice. To the original "whinger", stand up for yourself and insist on them using your name, good luck.
