I just noticed some glass tubing in the Q Stores catalogue while I was looking for something else. I don't know what diameters it goes up to but it was under General Glassware - Tubing. This information may not be of any use to you but thought I'd pass it on anyway.

glass tubes
They are about 5mm diameter on the inside. I'm not sure where the tubes came from. I only started this year and they already had them. I think they are the same glass tubes that are used in stoppers in test tubes etc. Someone else might know where to get them from.

try using glass tubes instead of a measuring cylinder. we have just finished doing this with year seven. we used glycerine, salt water, tap water and metho with a different colour in each. put one end of the tube in a piece of potato and use droppers (i found the disposable pipettes worked best). th...

reverse osmosis water filters
Can anyone tell me how water from these filters compare with distilled water? Do they waste much water like stills do? We start level 5 water restrictions next week... Continuing to purchase bottled distilled water indefinately isn't going to be fun.

acid/base stocks
Hi all, Thanks for your responses. I've now got most of my concentrations made up (it has been a quiet day :-) ). As for pouring it into dropper bottles, what I have been doing so far is pouring it into a beaker or small measuring cylinder and then using a funnel, pouring it into the dropper bottles...

Acid/Base stock solutions
Hi All,
I was just wondering what concentrations of acids and bases people stock in the lab. Up until now I've just been making up solutions as requested but this isn't always convenient so I would like to make some larger quantities to keep handy.
Thanks,
Rosalie

I made up small blocks using ice cube trays. Obviously if you have a large class this won't be time-efficient. I weighed (not very accutately) each individual portion of copper carbonate or copper sulfate (I can't remember which... and using about 5g from memory - I've only done it once and it was i...

3D glasses
Hello!
Hope you all had an enjoyable holiday. A teacher has asked me if I know where to find 3D glasses for one of her classes. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Rosalie

magnetic stirrers
My magnetic stirrer doesn't stir :-( Has anyone else had this problem? The hot plate still works on it, and it is magnetised, but the stirring magnet doesn't spin. If it is the machine thing, is it fixable or will I have to get a new one? Any ideas where to get new ones from at a reasonable price? R...

Sodium Phosphate?
I am preparing a prac for Friday and it says the kids will need sodium phosphate. We only have Tri-Sodium Orthophosphate in the store room. Can anyone tell me if this will do the same job?
Thanks,
Rosalie

cleaning glassware
Hi, I am just new to this Chemtalk thing (and new to lab assisting too... this is my 5th week!) and I have some glassware that needs cleaning from before I started. There are various types and amounts of deposits on several items. I have no idea what they are! I was going to ask for cleaning ideas a...
