Re: First day back and not happy

Thanks Ian. It was not a pleasant job but had to be done. I think the problem was not the maintenance staff but a power surge. Its happened before during the wet season because of the humidity and the building's wiring is ancient. I thought i had covered all bases only leaving the one fridge on, and...

Re: Poster/Chart Holder/storage

Hey all,

I have managed to find a poster holder down in our old storeroom but now I need to find the cardboard insert to hold the posters. I have found a few but have mould on them. I will have a look at Officeworks...should be able to find some.

Thanks

Re: Has anyone ever added bacteria to agar before pouring??

I make up about 30 plates at a time, 15 with the added bacteria and 15 normal nutrient agar (control), So they can be compared but the bateria added plates are so much better. I keep them in the fridge until they need to be used and last for up to a week or two. Once they are taken out of the fridge...

Has anyone ever added bacteria to agar before pouring??

Has anyone ever added the bacteria to agar before pouring? I have been experimenting with agar and have got some awesome results. The teacher I am making them for have been teaching for well over 20 years and has said he has never had results like this, so I thought i would share my secret. I have b...

Re: How to make nutrient agar

10g Agar
2.5g Bonox
1.5 Peptone
500ml Hot water

Makes about 30 plates.

I also make plates with the bacteria in the gel, allow the agar to cool to 50C then add bacteria (rhodospirillum works a treat) give it a mix. Alot better then onnoculating.

I work 28 hours a week with 35 science classes a week in 5 labs. We have about 750+ students and I dont work holidays. I am not sure how to work it out but i can tell you, I struggle and when I get teachers complaining, I don't let it worry me because I am not full time. If they complain hard enough...
