Re: Colours of MSDS's
Hello all - I think it must be in a very very safe place  On a positive note I followed Sue's advice and hunted around on the net for CSIS stuff. The first link the department supplied couldn't find a file but then I searched a little deeper (the good little search engine that I am :D ) and f...

Re: Colours of MSDS's
Hi Sue,
Interestingly I have no Appendix D.
Hopefully the last labby thought it was important enough to file somewhere special.
I am now going through drawers and folders in anticipation. wish me luck.
Thanks,
Patti
btw - did you used to be called something else last year?

Re: Colours of MSDS's
I'm interested in the coloured dot thingy too. Does Chemwatch tell you what coloured dot a chemical is or what colour a particular concentration of chemical is? - I have no idea where to find this info. Basically I use an old label file that was given to me in my last incarnation as a labrat nearly ...

Re: Do you go to faculity meetings?
Morning all, Well - I am a bit of a mushroom but that works for me! Never attended a faculty or a staff meeting. Didn't even realise I should go to the Staff Development Day morning meeting until I missed a couple. My old school did not include SASS staff in anything. My Science HT has given me the ...

Re: making up Universal indicator
Can I ask a blonde question? I just made up some phenolpthalein indicator today and the mixture got warm when I added the distilled water. I was just following "The Laboratory" and there was no info on what would happen. Is this supposed to happen? One bewildered, L plater Labby. Ch...

Re: What to wear
This has been a fascinating read. I tend to look like the office staff - probably because that's my background and I do work a fair bit in the office too. so I have uniform "ish" blouses and skirts, pants in winter but for individuality I proudly wear my sky blue tie dyed lab coat - the la...

Hi Everyone and welcome back! Sorry about the leg Wendy - hope you enjoy some time off. I know what you mean about perhaps getting a good chance to check the forums and reply. I always feel a bit sneaky when I'm on Chemtalk - possibly because it is so entertaining learning all the important stuff. I...

So far no one has asked me to do anything with text books apart from taking one to the Library every now and then for covering.

Re: Radiation sources
Hello Pam! Fortunately I made it out of the bones and rocks room alive! Liz will be pleased to know I carefully read page 37 before heading downstairs. Donned disposable gloves and my kryptonite tie dyed lab coat and grabbed hold of the cardboard box. Fortunately it contained a locked metal box (wit...

Re: Radiation sources
This is quite an interesting topic - I was just in the Physics store - I call it my bones and rocks room and looked up at the cardboard box labelled "Radioactive - store 1 metre away from other materials" and wondered what was in it and what it could be doing to my bones and rocks. Perhaps...

Re: Collection of Hazardous waste in NSW
Hi Sharon, My Head Teacher told me to take advantage of being the new girl and to throw junk out and then if we needed it to say "Oops, sorry didn't know." She is loving how much rubbish has disappeared. Got another pile to go today! And as yet nothing I have thrown out has been missed. Fi...

Re: New updated training manual
Guess What!! I just got an early Christmas present! My SAM just handed me a copy of "Working in Science". What classic timng, after only just discussing it this morning. Wonder about the reimbursement when the RSRG buys them for schools. Our SAM is happy to get another one and the Science ...

Re: New updated training manual
Hi All,
have only just downloaded the flyer - it looks great. Liz - how come you got yours early? Am I just slow?
I think I will be waiting until the RSRG buy mine for me. Looks like it will be worth the wait though.
(I am one of those SAOs thrown into Science without a clue).
Cheers,
Patti

Re: Collection of Hazardous waste in NSW
Thanks Coxy for that post! While not particularly great for Sharon, I feel rather comforted that my stock of "How do I get rid of that?" stuff doesn't seem to date back quite so far. Most of it was here when I had my last stint as labby four years ago but doesn't seem to go back too much f...

How do you prepare agar plates in the microwave? I'm wandering around the boards and haven't found it yet.
Thanks.

We are currently axolotl farming - a big hit with the kids. They are buying up all the babies. Not a particularly girly sort of animal but interesting, nonetheless.
