Re: Risk Assessments
I'm still finding it hard to get them to use it properly. If they don't think it's a risky prac, they just don't bother with it, and send me an email instead, which stuffs up the scheduling. Or they say " so and so did a risk assess for that, so I don't have to. Just print an extra copy (?) I'v...

Mercurochrome
Hi, I've found a bottle of 2% mercurochrome in an old first aid kit. I'm wondering if this stuff is banned in schools. I could not find any info on it in my CSIS (which is admittedly pretty old). I thought I read or heard somewhere that it could no longer be purchased and was no longer made as it wa...

Re: help
Thanks. I actually saw that a couple of days and printed it out. Hopefully it will give me a bit more clout. I had printed out last years sheets and given them to him, but every time I tried to approach him he would give me some story. I saw my HOD and after several attempts she extracted it from hi...

Re: help
I am not DET school, but I'm not sure how much that should matter. If there is a stack of flammable liquids and other hazardous chemicals on site, wouldn't the fireys want to know about it? Wouldn't you be concerned if it suddenly went missing? I've appealed to a few higher powers, and have said to ...

Animal blood and forensics
Any one use animal blood for forensics pracs with luminol?
Are we allowed to use animal blood (I assume this would be OK as we do dissections)
Anyone know where we can get black lights and luminol cheaply?
Thanks.

Re: Methyl Orange Indicator
I've found that as well. I have found that there is a supplier MSDS /label that has it made up in 20% ethanol, so that is what I have used . I have a few litres of the stuff in stock and dropper bottles, so I don't really want to throw it all out. I would also like to hear other's ideas.

Re: Risk Assessment
Does anyone have their students doing risk assessments? Has anyone bought student riskassess? I see on the website that according to the national curriculum students are encouraged to assess risks . I pushed to get riskassess and would like it to be used with every prac but that doesn't always happe...

Re: Insurance travelling while shopping for school
Has anyone heard any more about this? Are we covewred if shopping on the way to and from school, under workers comp and/or car insurance? Are we covered if we do it on the way to/ from work as long as it is during our rostered hours? Do we have to come in to work first? We used to have a buyer who d...

Re: Safety showers.
They do need to be at a lower pressure than the shower so the eyes are not damaged, but if they can't blow the dust covers off it's too low. I did find this link (hope it works) that says what the pressures should be and that the flow should be tested by a plumber every year and noted on the complia...

Re: Safety showers.
Re safety showers and eyewashes - how many of you check them, both for operation and flow rate? Do you get someone in to check them/do maintenance? In my previous life safety showers and eyewashes were checked for operation on a weekly basis as part of rostered safety checks. I've taken to checking ...
