Re: First day back and not happy

Oh dear! Not a good start... Don't throw out your H2O2 though. It will still be usefull for pracs that don't require exact concentrations (eg the MnO2 and H2O2 prac) and even the ones where it needs comparison of dilution it should still work. I haven't had my fridge turned off but I have read other...

Re: Silver Nitrate stains

PS what prac requires saturated silver nitrate? We have never used more than 5%, and even with that I am trying to tell teachers we don't need it that strong! Just curious...

Re: Silver Nitrate stains

As far as I know you just have to wait until the skin replaces itself as it's actually a reaction in your cells. So yeah, lots of scrubbing I guess!

Re: Insurance travelling while shopping for school

I checked with our business manager about this. He said that I am covered for trips done for school but how it works is if an accident happens, I claim it on my insurance but the school pays the excess and I don't lose my no claim bonus and if I am injured it is still covered by work cover because i...

Re: 500ml beakers

Thanks Narelle, they were the last ones on my list and hadn't checked them before writing this question. Just popped back to say "Don't worry, I found them!" and here you are suggesting them. Too efficient!

500ml beakers

Does anyone out there know where I can get 500ml beakers from?? I have been looking around and all the websites I've looked at jump from 400 to 600ml, but I want the 500ml ones! Can anyone help me? I think I'm going crazy...

Battery tester

Just thought I'd let you know I got a battery tester recently for about $25 which I have just used for the first time. It is brilliant! Threw out all the ones that didn't fit in the 'Good' category and ones that were completely flat. I find that if I send batteries out, say for example because the t...

Re: disposal of contaminated solids

Dime - that is essentially what we used to do but with wire loops. It took no time for them to contaminate the little bottles. Even when we tried the paper clips ("New paper clip each time") they still managed to mix them up!

Re: disposal of contaminated solids

I trialled the paddlepop idea which I am planning to go with from now on. That's why I'm quite happy to be getting rid of these samples. Thanks JudyM - didn't consider the heavy metals container! It collects the liquids but of course I can throw the solids in there too! I'm suffering from end of yea...

disposal of contaminated solids

Hi Everyone! Just wondering what you all do with solid chemicals that have been mixed up. My little bottles of chemicals for flame tests are all messed up with who knows what in them. I don't know how it is so hard to rinse the loop before each dip (since that is part of the process anyway - wet the...

If you have a HomeArt store somewhere near you they often have them for not very much money (under $50).

Re: Fossils

I did this once. I bought a bbq chook, took the chicken off (at home) to eat and then at school I put what was left in a really big beaker and boiled it on the hotplate. I kept the resulting chicken broth for the year 12 pasteurs experiment (after reducing it). I had to pick out any pieces of chicke...
