Re: And just like that, it is all over...

Thinking of you all back at work! I have an enforced extra 4 weeks before I can get back to work 8O For some reason they think it would be an OH & S risk to have a wheelchair bound Sciene assistant :w00t: Dont know why, There is only 2 flights of stairs and 300 metres between my prep room and 4 ...

Re: Upgrading of 800 science laboratories (NSW public schools on

The wheels are slowly turning. Today we had the Department of Commercearchitect and an electrical engineer here to look at and photograph our labs so that the plans can be drawn up for our upgrades. \:D/ It seems they were a little ahead of themselves last September when we had the media and local M...

Re: chemicals down the drain??

If you look in appendix E Disposal of Waste Chemicals in the CSIS pages 28 & 29 there is a list of the Sydney Water limits for disposal of wastes to sewers. Limits are given in grams / day. This is for the whole school in the day. It has a list of limits allowed as litres of 0.1 M solutions per ...

Re: St Mary's Conference

I am so envious of all of you going to St Mary's. :cry2: I've had 8 weeks away from school so far this year and didn't want to push the friendship too far asking for another 3 days off. Beside there are a couple of very exciting things happening over the next three days I really don't want to miss. ...

Re: Who's next for Lab updates

I'de like to know that also. We were initially told we may be this term, during the holidays, or first thing next term but have heard no more since. I'm concerned we will be told as they arrive with no time to sort and move things. I don't want to do too much moving now if it isn't going to be until...

I don't have Corion at school but I had it put in my kitcheb at home 17 years ago and it still looks almost good as new.

I havent had a major spill of and kind but small stains and burns come out with a rub with gumption and a scotchbrite.

mine is a grey colour.

Just out of interest what do they use it for.

I've been here 10 years and have not had it requested at all. I have 3 small jars in the chem store that are all liquidish.

Hi Cindy,

I was wondering if your refurb did actually start in the holidays, and how are things going.

We have not yet had any word on when ours will start but I'm busy tossing out unnecessary stuff and making storage room for when it does happen.

What do you do when you KNOW the teacher is wrong

The message from Sassi about the disposal of Bromine water and an incident on friday prompted me to ask others, what do you do when you know what the teacher is telling the students is wrong? On friday the Head teacher was explaining the change in pH in relation to molarity using HCL as his e...

I had made it with Distilled water from the fridge and the ampoule had also been in the fridge. Then into brown bottles and back into the fridge.

Todays worked a treat though.

Re: Bromine water - disposal

We did that same experiment this morning too 8O I make the bromine water up from ampoules of bromine then put it into dropper bottles. The waste from the test tubes that are mixed with Cyclohexane and cyclohexene go into our organic waste bottle. I put the dropper bottles back into the chemical stor...

Franklins at Tamworth has Junket. Aisle no 3 right down the back on the right hand side but right up on the very top shelf where they usually have the extra stuff to pack onto the lower shelves. There is one box with about 10 vials in it but no visiable indication of price. I happened to be in there...

Our bugs were here waiting for me to return from holidays. I am thrilled with them, and anxiously wait for the next 2 to see what they are. It seems a realy good way to get a valuable resource. I was disappionted with the quality of the binder so have put the magazines into a display folder instead....

I quess that is the correct/fancy name for what we here just call projects! Here all year 8 students do a "project" in groups of 3 (that in itself is 70 different projects) and then at the beginning of year 10 each student does an individual project. Thats 220 individiual projects. Plus pr...

Condolances to Theresa

I would just like to express my condolance to Theresa and the rest of the staff at Winthrop Baptist College following the loss of 2 of their staff members in Thailand.

My thoughts, and I imagine those of the whole Chemtalk family, are with you and you fellow staff at this time.

Last year our physics teachers decided that they the old Spectrum tubes on the wooden stand did not work well enough and insisted on a new one. We purchased the one in the Serrata catalogue. I always get our dry Ice from BOC in Tamworth. I take a 6 can esky ( it now has a dry ice safety label on it which they supplied) over with me and most times they fill it for me for nothing.
