Re: CuSO4
Hey Sassi! I am with you, I have never included the dilute Sulfuric Acid part either. I have just referred to the table of inorganic compounds, determined the quantity of chemical for molarity required, and mixed with distilled water as appropriate. Well, you are certainly right about the Laboratory...

Re: 2007 Chemical Safety in Schools Update Course
Hi Julie, I have just received notification today that I am placed 14th on the waiting list (bummer!) and I feel quite torn hoping that 14 people would drop out so I can go but not really wanting to wish ill on anybody... :-( If it works out that I make it, I'd really love to catch up with you. Than...

Re: 2007 Chemical Safety in Schools Update Course
Hi everyone,
I am pleased to confirm that I am booked in on the 26th, arriving at the airport about 7.35 that morning. I was wondering if if anyone else is doing the same on the Monday? I'd love to meet fellow chemtalkers and also thought we could travel to Normanhurst together?

Yes, I am often asked to mark the multiple choice section of exams even outside my curriculum. I guess I'm a sucker 'cause I believe in helping out whenever I can - always dependent on my current workload. I have yet to test the theory out tho' of "what goes around, comes around!" Lou P. P...

If I am repeating myself because the post I thought I submitted didn't show up I apologise now... (always have go places twice - the second time to apologise!) BUT what I had said was something in the lines of Mmmmm! Such culinary and gastronomic delights! Reminds me of the cook book I have at home ...

What great ideas! Thanks all for your input. Meanwhile I have found graphite good to loosen the action of the collars if they are very tight.
Thanks again,

Bunsen Burners
Hi Everyone, I'm "renovating" our bunsens (natural gas) at the moment and was wondering if anyone had some tips - other than don't let students near them! I am replacing the rubber tubing with the plastic, (that part is easy) but some of the barrels are very stiff to turn, some have had wa...

Hi Rosalie! I haven't answered the poll as either suits me, it will depend when my executive are prepared to spare me! I would really love to see Chemtalk family wear special name badges to denote our sign-in names - do you think we/someone could organise it? Hoping to meet as many chemtalkers as po...

Re: Solvay Process
Hi Ellice, This is probably not much help but we left it up to only performing the heating calcium carbonate, dissolving the ammonia in brine and bubbling carbon dioxide thru the brine. Mostly because we don't have all the equipment, but also because the "dot point" only requires the stude...

I found that being accurate with the amount of extra sugar put in the bottle before filling is the key to avoiding exploding brew! Haven't had one explode since! And the best brews my husband and I have enjoyed have actually been the generic ones bought from the supermarkets too. Cheers and beers, L...

Saponification
Hello Chemtalk family, Can anyone help me with a tried and true saponification recipe? My boss hasn't done this for a while and being as busy as a trout swimming upstream has been unable to pass on this prac. to me for the senior chem students. I don't know how I would survive without this network! ...

Don't know if this helps - I purchase Rennet (20ml) from Southern Biological for $5.30 (ex GST) and mix 1ml to 100ml of water. Then use 1ml of this solution to 10ml of milk. It works very effectively.
