Re: Safety glasses hygiene
I'm with you! Glen 20 or I put a tub of warm water with dish washing liquid in it in the lab for the kids to put the glasses straight in. I then just tip the water out after about 10 min and leave to dry on a towel on the lab bench.

It's not an animal dissection but I thought someone might find it interesting for a forensics class?

Re: Length of Chemical Storage
Restarting an old thread here but was wondering if opinions had changed since last comment? I've just completed my first chem stock take and noticed a lot of old government stores chemicals. Is it still ok for us to keep these chemicals if I can't find an SDS from the manufacturer? I've printed out ...

Re: How do I describe what I do?
Thanks Merilyn and Labbie, I agree that the teacher should be responsible for student safety but if it is something imminently dangerous something should be done. It's mainly just things like no safety glasses and lab coats when the teacher has identified the need for them on riskassess. I might sta...

Re: How do I describe what I do?
Could I ask for some feedback from others about our job? I'm only relatively new (3rd year part time) but was wondering how other lab assistants felt about the responsibility of student safety during pracs? Do you have the responsibility to make sure that students are wearing their safety glasses an...

Re: Science Assistant Training
Thanks for your replies. I'm only relatively new to the job and chemical disposal is the area I most freak out about. I have signed up to do the courses. School is happy to pay so I'm happy to do.
I am so glad I found this forum it has already been a life saver!!

Re: How do I describe what I do?
I'm not so sure about the all " under the supervision of a teacher" references in this?? It's more like teachers completing tasks under the supervision of the Lab Assistant!

Re: Science Assistant Training
I know I'm late to this conversation but I was also looking for training options. I'm in a regional area and can't travel to the TAFE campuses offering the Cert III. I found these two online courses that I'm currently looking into as a start. https://www.aisnsw.edu.au/courses/pages/CourseDetails.asp...

Any feedback? They look like they can be used with both dye and DNA samples?
