Re: Enzyme prac Y11-12
Hi All, I've decided, after the past week spent refining and redoing the enzyme pracs, that this topic was invented to teach me the art of patience!!!! I've nutted out most of the problems, now we wait and see if the students can get it!! I'm using pepsin with egg white suspension, catalase (potato ...

Hi Sue,
Yes; I use the web-based ChemGold site all the time, but I also have the CDs as a backup and because the label function on the CD is less "clunky".

Hi Robyn,
A much easier alternative is to boil the water vigorously for about 5 mins immediately before use then cool it - no mess, no chemicals.

Re: Enzyme reactions
Hi again,
I've been looking up enzyme pracs (as I seem to do every year at this time, should write them down!) and found a couple of goodies at
http://www.studentxpress.ie/educ/biology/bio4.html
and
http://www.zoo.utoronto.ca/able/volumes ... miller.pdf
Hope they're useful.

Re: Chemwatch Issues
Hi all - yeah, the discs contain training info and its fairly easy to pick up - just stick with it. As far as I'm aware, NSW DET schools can't use the web-based system for their manifests, so the CD is the only way for them to go.
Cheers,
Liz

Re: Chemwatch Issues
Hi all,
Just remember that the ChemWatch ChemGold web-based program and the CD-based system are slightly different and the purchase of one isn't the purchase of the other. For places where a stand-alone system is OK, the CD-based system is the way to go.

Hi, I use ChemWatch all the time and the CEC (Catholic Ed. Commission) has paid for our access for many years and, presumably, for other catholic schools (don't know the cost). I don't know about updating risk assessments eaach time I log on, but I do have my chemical inventory (called a Manifest by...

Re: Brian the Goat!!
At my schoo we have a girl goat named Nibbles(!) and she was most impressed by the stories of Brian's exploits (particularly since she has been isolated at the farm since a string of incidents involving our school's neighbours). Perhaps we could organise a meeting for them; their offspring would be ...

Re: 2007 Chemical Safety in Schools Update Course
Hi All, I've been following this thread because I really don't want to go to an in-service that is the same as all the others I've been to over the years. Since the CSIS is to be updated in Term 4 (wonder when we'll find out about it in my school system!?), I'll hold off rather than go thru all the ...

Hi All,
Gorgeous day here in New England also - everybody's in a far better mood after a couple of days of sunshine!
I use the 1M or 0.5M, depending on availability.
Cheers,
Liz

chemwatch access
Hi, You can also buy from Chemwatch the CD based program, which is about $80 per year, updated quarterly. I use both the web based ChemGold and the CD because we have fairly frequent Internet crashes here. The systems are both easy to use after some practice, but the labelling component of the CD sy...

Hi All, I also use ChemGold on the net and am quite happy with it, but I also buy a new version of the CD each year for about $80. It's updated quarterly and is a useful backup if the internet at school is down. The labelling function in Chemgold is a bit clunky and I need to know how you copy the l...
