Re: RiskAssess chemical codes
So may I ask what have you chosen to do , follow CSIS or RA ratings ? Not meaning to put you on the spot , just trying to get a feel for what DET schools that use RA are doing . We are a DET school, and we err on the side of caution, following Risk Assess recommendations for chemicals. Just remembe...

Re: MTA products going downhill fast?
I have been ordering in from MTA fairly often. Due to budget constraints I am very price conscious. However, Bill has been a huge help, and everything I have purchased has been exactly what I wanted and the quality has been quite reasonable. Especially considering the prices I have paid for the item...

Re: Technician recognition
Sadly no recognition from my teachers this week - I think they think that star week is the week after SASS week like it was last year. I live in hope!!
Lovely recognition of SASS week from our Principal and our wonderful SAM though.

Re: Hazardous Chemical Register
Hi,
I only count the solids/concentrates in my chemical register - anything I have made up to whatever concentration came from one of them.
I use the manufacturer's SDS from their website if I can possibly find it, otherwise I get the gold one from Chemwatch.
Happy hump day!

Hi Maria,
We bought ours about 2 years ago and they're awesome! Technos GE3278-01. I can't remember where we got it from though.

Re: Removing rubber stopper from small conical flask
Sometimes you have to weigh up the cost of replacing a conical flask vs the cost of your time, energy & whatever materials you use trying to save it... Sadly in the past I have had to give up and break items to salvage the stopper as it was taking up way too much of my time trying to save the lot.

Re: Bovine eyes
We are given ours by the local abattoir here in Tamworth. I know we are fortunate that they still do it for us. At one point I couldn't get through to them and our local butcher offered to give me pig eyes instead. Not as big and easy to handle, but they were fresh and the lenses weren't cloudy! It ...

Maybe they were made to be used as a safe tray, and catch any liquid spilling out of a broken bottle??

Re: Are MTA still in business??
As it happens, we had our MTA sales rep here yesterday doing his show & tell. He then joined a group of us labbies for dinner afterwards. It might be an idea to find out who your rep is - they can often give better prices than the stock ones on the website.

Re: Operation of Steam Sterilizer
I use the All American, start heating with the vent open until steam escapes for 5-7 minutes. If I put the agar into a conical flask I pack cotton wool into the neck then cover loosely with foil. I've never had a problem with it boiling over but I don't fill more than about 2/3 full. When I can I us...
