Re: Electrophoresis Kits

Thanks for your reply. I was looking at these ones from Southern Biology Bluegel Electrophoresis Starter Kit Any feedback? They look like they can be used with both dye and DNA samples? I had a quick look ,very nice units and the internal light and special dye in sample is a big improvement on the ...

Re: Electrophoresis Kits

I would strongly suggest looking at the Dye electrophoresis kits as apposed to the real DNA ones . we had the Carolina DNA ones but the samples were very expensive and had small shelf life . They also require supper dopper expensive Agarose powder and stains . The process was two part requiring over...

Re: RiskAssess chemical codes

So may I ask what have you chosen to do , follow CSIS or RA ratings ?
Not meaning to put you on the spot , just trying to get a feel for what DET schools that use RA are doing .

Re: Disposal of KSCN and CoCl2?

OK just looked up CSIS on line to compare it to CSIS printed version . What I initially thought were changes to disposals in the online CSIS would appear to be "Formatting errors " Note how the numbers are the same from Chlorinated hydrocarbons ....just its one line out . OMG how are we me...

Re: Disposal of KSCN and CoCl2?

I'd pour them into my heavy waste disposal bottle .
recently it was getting full so I evaporated most of the water out of it and its nearly empty again . Not paying for disposal of water :)

Re: dynamo

Sounds like the coil is open circuit . Have you checked for continuity through it ?....Either with a Multimeter on Ohms range ....or even a simple light bulb and power pack . If the coil is open circuit , its more common that it will fail where the connections are soldered onto the commutator than a...

Re: dynamo

Thanks Emma .
I'm guessing from the Pics that you can move the contacts ,IE you can slacken the Green and Red knobs and slid the contacts along the rails to set it up for either AC or DC generation .
You might want to check the alignment or try the other position .
Hope this helps

Re: RiskAssess chemical codes

On a brighter note, the labels are so good. There is now a new feature where you can print multiple labels for different chemicals onto the one page - great idea. LOL funny you mention that Merilyn .It only happened last week . The day after I first used it . Here I am scratching my head wondering ...

Re: RiskAssess chemical codes

Waiting for HT to see which way I am meant to proceed when it comes to labeling . Seeing as we are hoping to have all senior pracs done according to Riskassess , I am now in a quandary . Well ,as we are DET school, HT has decided that we go with CSIS recommendations regarding DETRA colour dots .She...

Re: dynamo

It's unlikely the Magnets have lost enough strength for it not to work to some capacity. it is possible that the coil has gone open curcuit . You should be able to test the coil with a multimeter . It will probably read around 1-2 Ohms . Is it easy to turn the handle ? If there is a short curcuit on...

That's definitely something I do too Merilyn

Re: RiskAssess chemical codes

Hmm , just when I thought Riskassess was making more and more chemicals harder to use , it appears that acids are now not as dangerous as they used to be . CSIS has 10M HCl as teacher only , now according to Riskassess , 11-12 can use it . CSIS has 10-18M H2SO4 as teacher only , now according to Ris...

play around with it I have been . it's interesting . Not so sure I like the scheduling . Re: RiskAssess chemical codes

Risk assess is over the top, so we were told, its really for very very large amounts. Not the amounts used in schools, That's what I thought was the case for Chemwatch , but I thought Risk Assess was designed with School Pracs in mind ....surely small amounts are factored into that . Oh well , look...

We're having a big clean up of equipment due to losing our store room. The Crooke's Tube Cross Vacuum set we have is very old and does not work. Does anyone know how we can dispose of it? If they are just Vacuum tubes then you can just wrap them in newspaper and dispose of them as you would an old ...

Doesn't seem to be that much that will impact us that I can see. Adoption of GHS 7 From 1 January 2021, Australia will begin a two-year transition from GHS 3 to GHS 7. The transition period will finish on 30 December 2022. During the transition, manufacturers and importers may use either GHS 3 or GH...
