Re: new association for NSW Labbies

Hi All,

It is great to see this level of professionalism brought in to the position for the School Lab Managers. I trust this will be a great move towards setting some standards amongst us and providing the relevant support the position brings.

Well done.

Cheers,

Hi All,

Unfortunately I will be at NASA with the Launch of the very last Space Shuttle mission.

Otherwise I would have made a trip to Darwin.

Re: gas

Hi All, I would make sure the gas is turned off personally, and I do this in fact. Look at it this way, if ever workcover come in due to a serious accident then you can cover yourself and the Science faculty by at least having noted that the gas was turned off. This way any negligence will be put ba...

Re: Safety glasses hygiene

HI All, A very effective way to provide sterilization for your glasses is to obtain a UV light globe and an old lamp. Set this up in a large box flat on a table, have a hole in the top to feed the lamp adapter in the top and connect the light from the inside of the box turn it on and there you have ...

Re: Sodium metal and water

HI All,

To give you an accurate guide, 5mm square pieces will do you fine. This is not enough to generate enough H2 gas to cause any problems.

Re: pH meters

Hi All, Do a seach of the topics in Chemtalk . Once I had posted a pH electrode ReJuvenation process which is very effective for the stubborn pH meters that don't give accurate readings. pH meters rely on transfering current across the ISE (Ion Selective Electrode), ( Glass Bulb on the end ) so real...

Re: Naphthalene black

Hi All,

Luminol is your best bet. At least Luminol will pick up traces on amino acids in your skin oils.

Place inferprints on Chromatography paper and they will turn Purple.
