Re: SDS + Chemwatch
According to what Jazz posted, we have until 2016 to change these things. The old MSDS are still fine. I am sure that by 2016 they will be available in the GHS format but until then just go with the MSDS that's available. I am only planning on changing over as they need to be done. So we have 5 year...

Re: Bullock eyes
I don't think there's anything wrong with sheep eyes. It's just the size difference. Bigger eyes are easier to play with.

Re: Bullock eyes
Yep, try your local butcher. Pigs eyes do the job! I got told (I think by someone at the abbotoir) that they can't give out Bullock eyes anymore because of potential risk of mad cow disease (???). Perhaps that was just in the height of the scare, but since then we've used pigs eyes and they don't co...

Terry - Good luck with them not costing too much! Do a search here for data loggers and you will find lots of pros and cons for a variety of ones on the market.

Re: Has anyone ever added bacteria to agar before pouring??
We can do this one as long as the plates aren't opened after incubation and are destroyed before disposal, and there are certain areas where they can't collect samples such as toilets and people.

Re: Has anyone ever added bacteria to agar before pouring??
I think there are 2 reasons for growing bacteria. The one where kids randomly collect germs from around the school, in which case the swiping is important and multible nasties grow. Then there is the one where they test the antibiotic rings. Often because the kids haven't had the practice (or patien...

Re: Gel Electrophorsis
hahahaha bunsen! I hadn't noticed :) I thought you had left out 'a' as in "they are a funtional tool" but reading it the other way "they are funtional, you tool!!" haha makes it very funny, even though you didn't mean it this way. Perhaps I am just way too sick of this job and wo...

Hi nickykinz! They look great! Do you use the same gel as for the DNA ones or is it just plain agar gel?

Yes you are allowed to post pictures but like Whspa said, it sounds like a capstan block. We have these too. I'm not allowed to throw them out but I have not seen them used in the 6 years I have been here.

Re: Soggy Chemicals
Aside from using an evaporating basin to boil them dry, I don't know how you would go about it. Perhaps you could store some of those bead things that absorb moisture from the air? I can't think what they are called but I can picture them! lunch box sized plastic containers, I think clear with a pin...

Thanks. I did search for physics string before posting but didn't come up with anything. I thought it had come up before. Perhaps using different words. I'm pretty sure the one I ordered last time was just called Physics String possibly from Scientrific.

physics string
Hi Everyone, Just wondering what you use for physics string? You know, the stuff that is supposed to not stretch when using pulleys, pendulums etc? I remember buying some a couple of years ago but the packaging disappeared a short time later and now I just have a zip lock bag with various lengths la...

True. As soon as I read nickykinz's post above I thought "Oh yeah, that sounds right. I bet it's H2SO4 that I'm thinking of." That's the problem of not having a computer near where the chemicals are. It's too much of a hike to go check!! Thanks for the clarification and for picking up on m...

Re: Need help
Don't worry Labbie - I'm sure all of us have days when our brains just refuse to switch on! I had a Geography teacher email me the other day asking if we have any hygrometers (and a few other things) she could borrow for a year 7 class. I emailed back saying we don't have hygrometers but we have wet...
