Re: Ongoing practicals.
Hi Curie, If a chemical or solution is not being used straight away it needs to be labelled, that is during the course of the day it has been made up. I have labelled all of our stock bottles for the alum solution for crystal growing, the containers the crystals are growing in are not labelled thoug...

Hi David,
In NSW TAFE have WHS cert IV and diploma, I think you can do them on line too. I am doing cert IV at the moment, very interesting I am enjoying it but the home study I find difficult, just the time factor.
Cheers

Re: Advancing up Levels
Hi General My advice to you is ask the PCBU/principle, you never know what the answer will be!! I asked at the beginning of last term and it took a term but I was advanced to a level 4 :clap3: , I dont have to do anything extra, because I was already doing it all on level 3. Take a deep breath and j...

Re: Data logger for Mac OS
Have you contacted Scientrific? We have Vernier, BUT we dont have Macs, You get a disc that you load into the computer when you buy the vernier, but again not sure if it will work on a Mac. Scientrific are good when you contact them, they are at support at scientrific.

Re: riskassess
I guess it is up to you how you prefer to use it and what system you get used to with the teachers. I have my orders emailed to me and then I do the RA and only open RiskAssess when I need to do an RA, and this can be a few times a day.

Re: Are these chemicals appropriate
Hi we use Bromine but ONLY for yr11-12, it is horrible stuff I would be pleased if it was banned, but we do use sulfur for yr 7-10, but again I have a teacher who hates it and wont use it. You also have to be careful with kids with sulfur allergies. And no we dont have lithium.

Hi Rosalie, the blisters were cut off at Gosford hospital under medical supervision, and I am sure they are closly monitored. One of the boys may have to have skin grafts, and they are still on pain relief. This was in Fridays local paper. I was also asking all the same questions as Rosalie & Sm...

Re: Holding Sodium in their hands:(:(
This case will be very interesting to follow and the outcomes. I have been told by an ex-Terrigal teacher, the casual brought the dry ice in himself and it was in a demountable classroom, no-one else knew what he was up to, not sure if that explains things or makes it worse & he was not a well k...

Re: WHAT are new rules on culturing micro-organisms
Maybe if you put the culture into a specimen jar, labelled it Bacillus subtillis gram +ve bacteria etc, make it look all official and tell them it was a sample sent to you to try out just a thought my bio teacher is happy to try it out, so I thank you Ian

I was stunned too, I heard about it on the local radio late last week, couldnt believe it. What on earth was the casual teacher thinking he has to be the biggest dope, those poor kids, the burns were horrific. If I was one of the parents Id be taking it further, unbelievable negligence.

Re: riskassess
I agree Rosalie, I may have to revise how we do it, now our '1' teacher is gone. On my lab request form I have the risk matrix and room for them to do all the risks etc, and I add it to the RA and if there is anything I think they need to be more aware of I write it on the order form stapled to the ...

Hi Smiley & Lada The Risk Assess RA are valid for 15 months, so long as the prac students and teacher doing it remains the same, you can use the same RA over that 15 months. I keep current term RA's in a folder on my desk, then they go into larger foler in prep room until they expire, then I sto...

Re: pot plant trays
We have propagation/seedling trays in little hot houses from the reject shop I think they were about $9 ea, it does add up, but I have found them really good, and they fit onto a trolley and out of the way. I have seen them at Bunnings too, but I think they cost a little more.
