Re: Labelling and Safe Work Australia

The 'Labelling of Workplace Hazardous Chemicals' Code of Practice is the current one even though it is dated 2011, this is the one we use!

Re: GHS labels

Hi Labbie, it is preferable to have the red diamond, but the B&W is acceptable. I am going to try again for a colour printer, mainly for the signal words Danger & Warning, so they stand out.

Re: Living specimens allowed in schools?

Cool I will have a look. :clap3:

We buy the cultures in too. There was a good recipe on here for peppercorn infusion which is Bacillus subtilis bacteria. I havent tried it yet but we will this year, safer than E coli etc, may be good for a comparison?

Re: Living specimens allowed in schools?

Hi Kerri, Just curious, why do you want to culture your own E coli & Staph broths? They can be bought when you need them from Southern Biological. We have just got some very cute baby stick insects, we have axolotls which we have sucessfully bred and we are getting a water dragon. I am wondering...

Re: DOTS on Chemicals

Hi Noona, I asked WorkCover about this last year, they said we should still work within our guidelines ie CSIS, use RA's and SDS's, that is enough for me. Have a read of the Code of Practice 'Labelling of Workplace Hazardous Chemicals' from Safe Work Australia can be downloaded. While it relates to ...

Re: Insurance travelling while shopping for school

Yes, we all need to be careful! I have just found out our schools insurance covers my car should I have an accident while using my car for work. It took them to look into it as well, because they were not sure, even though I have covered myself too. Get your schools to look into their insurance poli...

Re: Insurance travelling while shopping for school

It depends on your insurance policy, check with your insurer if you are covered, I have just done that, it cost me extra on my premium for 'occassional' work use for my car, however I cannot carry paying passengers or dangerous goods. Workers comp will cover you if you are injured, but the car isnt,...

Re: eyes for dissection

I get ours now from Dissection Connection, I tell the teachers they need 1 week notice for dissecting stuff, so I have time to order it in. Our butcher was charging ~$5 each eye, got costly, DC are a little cheaper when I added freight, and she is very nice to deal with

Re: Iron(II) nitrate

Thanks you have been a huge help. I just told her again we cant get Iron(II) nitrate, so she said she will use sulfate next time. I didn't understand at the time it was the 2+ ions, not the nitrate but thanks again :clap3: :clap3: I will try the chlorine next time :wink2:

Iron(II) nitrate

Hi, I have been looking for Iron(II) nitrate for ages, does anyone know where I can get it from? I can get Iron(III) nitrate. My HOD asks all the time, and I tell her I haven't been able to source it, does it exist and where? And what is a chlorine solution, I offered a bleach solution but it has ot...

Re: Cheap slinky

I got 20, felt a bit greedy, but they had plenty . They are shorter than the ones we already have, but my HOD is ok with that, they may not get as tangled. They are the original metal slinkys, good quality for $5 vs $20 good value too :D

I cant see any jars that size from my suppliers either, maybe a kitchen or catering supply shop may have preserve jars that big.

We have just bought a class set of lab coats for our seniors to use, and I was wondering for those who have them, how do you store them? I was thinking of a portable wardrobe, maybe too ambitious :giggle: or a tub, trolley? I know I will forever be cleaning them and sorting, folding etc \:D/ :-({|=
