I have seen food dehydrators in Harvey Norman they were not expensive less than $40.
I use the incubator on a 28 degree seting, it dries usually over night nicely if sliced thinly.

I make a paste with a little water then add the paste to the 1L of boiling water.
Also check expiry date on starch.

I am finding it difficult to buy red cabbage at the moment. One of our Chemistry teachers has said that the cabbage can be subsitiuted by red roses, however they are very expensive at the moment.
