Re: professional learning program for laboratory assistant staff

Hi I attended the first course back in February when I had been a lab assistant for 18months and found it very helpful. As it was the first official training from the det I was encouraged by my school to go. I bought the new working in science book (this is essential for the course). It has a CD rom...

Re: chemical disposal

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has heard anymore info on the DET chemical collection that is supposed to be done this year?
I have lots of old containers and don't know whether to hang on to them or orgaise a pick up through the school.

CSIS online

Hi all, I was reading through some of the posts and saw vclabbie wanting a copy of CSIS. I thought it might be helpful to have the web address. https://detwww.det.nsw.edu.au/assetmanagement/chemicals/ I find appendix D very easy to use if you have constant computer access. Have a good hol...

Re: St Mary's conference 2009

Hi Rosalie, Have just got onto chemtalk today and what great news :D I am still waiting to hear from an IT guy with the DET about what to do with the manifest. Re: ID & Password for access to CSIS/Chemwatch

Hi Sue,
Thanks for your all your instructions but I still can't get in. I don't know if it is my lack of ability in understanding the site or
the complicated nature of it. I have been put onto someone else through the DET so hopefully I get some answers. It is good to know I am not alone :D

Re: ID & Password for access to CSIS/Chemwatch

I think this gets more difficult and confusing the further I go on  Sue I tried your url as I didn't have the chemwatchlogin.html. This got me into the chemgold II site or chemwatch. I typed in the username and password I had been given and entered so far so good. I clicked on manifest and a ...

HELP :w00t:
I need to put new wicks in the spirit lamps. The ones with the metal screw top and the wick is so big and I can't seem to get it in. Do I burn the wick first or cut it somehow?

Re: ID & Password for access to CSIS/Chemwatch

Hi, I have been trying to access the manifest since last October when I found out it existed. I spoke to Linda Watts (Western sydney regional OH&S person). She eventually contacted me and emailed the principal a username and password. This did not work. I tried this again this year it still did ...

What great news Liz. :clap3: From someone who has a nice clean prep room and labs plus big windows to look out of with plenty of ventilation it makes your day all the more brighter and you enjoy going to work. I hope you settle in easily and the staff welcome you with open arms. :D

Re: USE BY DATES

Hi, I don't have anything in writing but going back to Glen Sawle(Chief education officer, Science) at his workshop earlier in the year, he said that solutions should only be kept for 2 years from date of preparation. Of course as Sue said if sediment and colour change then toss out earlier. I did h...

physics textbooks

Hi all, My headteacher has decided that he wants yr 11 to have a physics textbook this year. We have one problem only 39 copies of Macmillian Physics 1 (2000 edition) to go around 47 students. We have no money to buy new textbooks until the end of the year. Usual problem. I think he thought students...

pickled brains

Hi all,
hope you are having a good day :D I need a recipe for pickled brains for a Bio dissection. I can't remember what quantities of what solutions are needed and I seem to have lost the recipe. This solution makes the brains firmer and easy to slice :yuck: Now what was I having for dinner?

Re: Colours of MSDS's

Hi, I agree with Noona on the MSDS printing. I was at the same course and this is what we were told for DET schools. The stocktake of all chemicals in the school has to be in a hard copy form and kept in the office so if there is a fire, the fire brigade can see what chemicals are stored in each are...
