Re: lab refurb or oh God cant someone help me

As someone asked me earlier I am supplying a photo of my drainage rack.
One can buy a similar one from Westlab, but I am sorry, I cannot remember where I bought this one. I will keep thinking about it. Picture attached.

p.s. picture too large, I will get back to you all on this.

Re: lab refurb or oh God cant someone help me

Just an aside. You all talk about putting drainage racks on the wall. I understand that, the Lab. Tech. before me had one put up. However, I purchased two that sit on the sink with each having 9 rows of 12 prongs 9 cms high. I have just recently been putting it in the dishwasher to wash the test tub...

Re: marking glassware

I am with macca on this one. I have been through all phases I think. My first school had colour coded glassware in glass cabinets. Easy. Other stuff in cupboards....not so easy. Next school I kept everything in store and presented them on the trolleys when needed....except retort stands, and heating...

Re: Frozen brains

No. As my salt solutions are saturated they become a preservative. You may wish to do it after one or two days as blood and sinew from the brain does discolour the solution. However, this does not impede the process. After the nine days just make sure that you wash the brains as best you can. This c...

Re: Acid Attack

Don't be too surprised at this story. Many years ago I did not have my safety glasses on and was making a solution of 10M of Sodium Hydroxide. And, would you have it, a single drop (yes a single drop) splashed up into my right eye. I was even half a metre from the beaker! Within seconds I was eyewas...

Re: Leucomalachite Green

It is a presumptive test for blood. Thus, if a brown stain on the carpet reacts with the leucomalachite green reagent then it is blood! At least that is the theory!

Leucomalachite Green

The title says it all. Does anyone know who sells this chemical. It is used in Forensic Science . If you do know where to buy it then you might also know how to prepare it for the prac.
Help!

Re: Computer access and melt-downs

I was thinking the same thing myself today as I could not get onto the school's intranet or internet. IThe rest of the school was fine but not my little room. My concern was my 'hazard substances, etc.... register'. Since the IT guy has fixed the problem I have saved, saved and saved some more in va...

I have noticed what school you work at Wayne and don't think that this would be a behaviour approved by your school's values. Thus, not very Christian of you at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Frozen Rats

G'day Wayne, I leave mine out overnight in a tub. The rat is in a plastic bag. You could put a tea towel or something similar over the tub if you wish. This works very well for me with the rat/s being supple in the morning ready for dissection. I live in Melbourne, Victoria and do not have much diff...

Carbon Electrodes

G'day, I am sure that someone can help. I have a Year 9 prac. which requires carbon electrodes. Students are just testing to see if distilled water, water from the tap, salted water and sweetened water conduct electricity. They are supposed to use Carbon electrodes in the prac. As the electrodes are...

Re: pay rates

G'day Nat, Here in Victoria a new agreement came into force in 2008. From this I have had a couple of increases with 2 more to come (I think?). At this stage I am on $47,000+ and should finish on $50,000+. This is paid over the whole year. And I am highly experienced. There are others who would earn...

Re: trolleys

I have worked with Tuffy Trolleys for 20 years and I think they are perfect. They are not your usual Laboratory trolley. To start with they are black, with 3 levels. They are made out of recycled plastic/rubber, therefore very light to wheel around. The ones I bought 20 years ago are still perfect o...

I realise that we all generally have Chemwatch now but occasionally I go to a site that I used before Chemwatch. I do like the way some other chemical companies set out their MSDS. They are very reader friendly. This website is:

Yes Sunray, what is it????? I know that there is someone out there whose imagination will take off on seeing that stupendous drawing and "name that piece of equipment". We could start a new game show. How about it Sunray? You can do the drawings and WE CAN GO CRAZY! Maree :cheesy: :cheesy:...
