Re: Science Conference at Greystanes this year

Hi Rosalie(s) I should probably mention that I don't get covered for my Science days - just the days I am missing out of the office!! After much deliberation we've decided I won't head down to the conference this year - we bought 6 microscopes for the Science Department instead. I'm happy with the d...

Re: Washing lab coats

Wow - this is fascinating how different schools can be. I wash the lab coats as needed - mostly seem to be Ag plot show coats. I do these in the TAS washing machine. Also do my tea towels, wash cloths etc there. Depending on who is on in Home Ec, I can actually have mine delivered to me all beautifu...

Re: Science Conference at Greystanes this year

Hi folks, I have just been emailing my "Mother Hen" from last year - Lizzie B. We have been discussing workshops etc. Now I'm off downstairs to discuss my attendance with the powers that be! Wish me luck! My HT is happy for me to go. It's just the airfare, accommodation and relief that cau...

Re: PSA running OHS training in Tamworth

Hi Liz,
I am planning to be in Tamworth on 5 Nov. Daughter is hoping to take part in the North West Dance Festival, so I will be up to my eyeballs in costumes and make up I imagine.

Cheers,

Re: What not to do with Dry Ice

Oh dear Noona, so glad you are okay. I'm very tentative with all that kind of stuff - give me a good spreadsheet to type any day. :cheesy: I have had some excellent help though lately overcoming my high concentration HCl fears. My special needs teacher gave me some fantastic help. Who'd a thought it...

Re: Cheap and local source of Alum

Hi Wendy!!

I bought a 25kg bag of alum from the local agricultural supply place and it would not grow decent crystals :cry2:
So now I have a very heavy bag of useless material to take to the Ag Plot.

Cheers,

Re: What equipment to put in new labs?

This is fantastic! Thank you! I love the tip about the glassware not being in the cupboards. The less stuff in there the better! I see that now (searching for light bulk smiley) as we are the people who have to keep putting it back in the right place. May I ask what you store in the tote tray towers...

What equipment to put in new labs?

Hi folks, I thought I'd remember someone discussing the kit they had set up in each of the practical bays in their new labs but can't seem to find a post on it. I was wondering what sort of things you have in the cupboards. Hand over was today and we are rather excited. Celebrated with champagne and...

Re: New Prep Rooms

Hi Folks, Thanks for all of your concerned responses. Felt like I should let you know I am still alive and have all my limbs and faculties! :D I have finally had a moment today to sit down and go through some of the handouts and notes from St Mary's in November. What a treat to read through! And goo...

Re: New Prep Rooms

Hi folks, Long time no chat. Today was to be the handover day -hmmmm. Well there are lots of tradesmen and lots of dust and they promised me a little look but..... I think they have just started fixing the plaster board to the walls - still lots of exposed cabling and holes in the ceiling etc. No fu...

Re: Ok, Spill the beans.

Just Back Report Hello Trish, I had a fantastic time at the 10th Anniversary conference. It was my first one and I am a relatively new science geek so it was overwhelming. Thank you Lizzie B for encouraging me to go and for being my den mother. :D LOL Liz organised a bunch of us from our region to s...

Re: St Mary's Conference 2009

Thank you ladies for all those wardrobe tips. Now I can go and pack my bag! See you soon. I have been wondering if I will bump into any of you at the airport or on the train and won't know who you are. I did discuss with Liz getting you all to wear your avatar - which would mean Liz would have a ver...

Re: For all coming to St Mary's

Thanks Noona! May I ask a dopey question? What do I wear? Do I need covered flat shoes and trousers or can I wear a skirt and sleeveless top? I am doing basic skills, chem, physics etc - not specimens so I know I shouldn't need my lab coat or do I? From an obvious first timer trying to pack her suit...

Re: St Mary's Conference 2009

Good one, RosalieM,
I am catching planes and trains and have checked out the rail website which gives me a great map and charts the whole trip from airport to central to st marys and then walking to the motel or school. It is worth a look especially for a first timer like me!

Really interesting reading. Thanks.

Hey, I like the bit about...

"a national online advisory service that can provide rapid, consistent and accurate advice to school science technicians on a wide range of issues."

They could call it Chemtalk! :D

Re: St Mary's Conference 2009

Hi Noona, Really looking forward to it. Do I find out ahead of time what workshops I'm in? I want to study up just in case - so I don't look like a complete, well..... office lady!! :giggle: No offence intended to office ladies as that is what I am (just hidden under a striking sky blue tie dyed lab...

Re: Junket!!

This is a fascinating discussion. Gotta love Chemtalk. I bought junket powder last week - from IGA and yes from the cigarette counter. I was starting to wonder 'what the?' as well. Interestingly I let the teacher know how expensive it was and to use it sparingly - but his response was "We only ...
