Re: Shower testing frequency

Do you have the cover for testing the shower? I have a blue sleeve that directs all of the water into a bucket, no problems and very easy to clean up. BTW, I love, love, love my safety shower - we had to use it last year when a student spilled a beaker of boiling water onto her leg. End result - one...

We also use 70% ethanol. They also used this when I did my Cert III Lab Skills 2 years ago in the labs at UNE.

Here is one we did last year as a demo using ammonium thiocyanate. Works really well.

And another using urea, the link to the procedure is there on the order.

Re: Welcome back

Thanks Labbie, it's great to be back! So far, that is...
No new car for me these holidays, just filing, painting & re-decorating a room, and the usual stuff where you *think* you're busy but there is nothing to show for it.
Have a great term/year everyone!!!

Re: Chemical Storage Container

Our canteen save their mayonnaise jars for me, they are large but work well for items such as plaster of paris etc which are needed in the classroom in bulk quantities.

Re: Welcome back everyone

Sounds like everyone had a great break, just waaaaay too short!

The cruise went from Brisbane, just as easy for us to get there as Sydney & cut off a couple of days at sea.

Earlier this year we bought some of the QM7264 from Haines for $140- each. I think the price is now $145-. They've been great, the staff are really happy with them.

Re: Chemical register/ stock take

If you want to use a spreadsheet for your chemical register, there is a Proforma on Risk Assess under Learning Resources. It is helpful especially if you're starting from scratch.

Re: flame test in spray bottles??

We do the flame test by soaking paddle pop sticks or splints in the solutions overnight, then holding the stick in the flame. Works a treat & there isn't a huge mess to clean up.

Re: transformers/powerpacks

We have several that are either tripping out, or clicking when we use them. They are all IEC Cat No. 2633-001. Does anyone know if they are worth repairing or should we just throw them out & buy new ones? Our physics teacher has said that they're not worth the cost of repairing.
TIA

I'll plan my trip so I get to Dubbo by 5, and once I've checked in I'll wander over to the club too. Probably around 5 - 5:30.
