Re: Year 8 Prac. Exam

Hi Rosalie, Geez we must be really nasty we give those for Yr 7 prac. exam. They draw apparatus in Yr7 but not set up so that's one great idea.
Density is another one but still need a few more, poor kids.

Thank you so much.

Re: marking glassware

WoooooHoooo its Friday, I don't store any glassware in the labs, it goes out with each prac. that way I can keep an eye on it and make sure its clean. If its a large prac. its usually on a trolley. The only thing that is in the labs at each bench are (retort & clamps, tripod & gauze, bunsen,...

As far as I'm aware they shouldn't be fluro's because of the starters, sparking and causing who knows what. "Not sure about that enclosed one though"

Re: What not to do with Dry Ice

Rell, I know that you are in Vic, not NSW, and so you are not governed by the CSIS Manual, but up here in NSW, the CSIS manual lists Solid CO2 an being a "Teacher Only" chemical. Not even senior students are allowed to touch it. If you were in NSW, your teacher would be "Hung, drawn ...

Re: Ammonium nitrate

Thanks everyone, we just get so much conflicting info it's not funny, I will still make the majority of it up into diluted solutions. Have around 1kg in total, in old Q-store jars (re-labelled a few years back) original were in lbs. So I guess I'm not going to run out soon :clap3:

Thanks again

I know that as soon as any renovations accur even minnor, they have to be installed. Prior to our labs being done, a mains for each, (electricity, water & gas) under teachers bench. We stopped all pracs., in one lab prior to renovations due to kids rocking the old benches and cracking the gas li...

Chemical Room exhaust systems

Just want to check with everybody else our prep. room and labs were refurbished in 2006, I was lucky enough to get 2 chemical rooms, 1 for dilutes and 1 for solids/concentrates. We have one external exhaust system which does both rooms, which at the moment the motor has seized, it's my understanding...

Re: AVOIDING ACCIDENTS

I agree Ocker, but as labbies, I think we all do as much as we can to prevent accidents. To point teachers in the right direction and report to HT if needed. I really don't know what else as labbies we can do. Everytime I see a report of an accident, I feel sick. I photocopy any information I can fi...

We use both fresh and frozen, mainly because if I can get hold of them, I always freeze some just in case. Teachers haven't complained. No doubt they would if there was a problem.
