Hi Lada,
We incubate it for a few days but we use ham or other processed meat. I do not think rotting fresh meat is OH&S friendly for several reasons.

That is sad, but you were a winner to get there! Think of all those schools that didn't even make it to the nationals...Congratulations on your (the school's) effort!

Re: WHAT are new rules on culturing micro-organisms
Hey Graham,
I was wondering if you know why it's not safe to autoclave parafilm. I autoclave the diposable petri dishes, tape and all before I dispose of them in the garbage. Should I stop doing that?
regards,

I haven't had any problems with just putting 1g of powdered phth in my phth agar. Colour has been the least of my problems... my problems always stem around operator error!

Re: Sound in a vacuum
I remember someone said here that they don't try to listen for the bell when the pump is on, but listens to hear the bell when they can after the pump is turned off. Rather what Smiley said in her post. I thought it's a rather clever twist on the experiment!

Re: Nut Aware
We have been nut free since 2007 and trained in epipen usage. Narelle, it's a shame people just don't take notice of no eating or drinking signs, they have no idea that it can go beyond looking after the venue. Shame on these obviously "illiterate" people.

Noona,
It's already been shown but if you go to the ABC iview internet site you can watch it! The program will be available to watch for another 12 days. Interesting stuff about the formation of Hawaii and the volcanoes!
