Melting Plastic

Afternoon everyone, any help or sugguestions for alternate practicals would be greatly appreciated. Re: Chemicals not sold by Westlab or other common suppliers

If you have a good HT I'd take it to them, I'm always sus with anything benzene or bromine. See what he is doing with it and the cost alone of the new chemicals for a once off, may be enough of a deterrent.

Yep didn't take long, one email at 10.30pm last night didn't read till this morning. 3 teachers wanting pracs and saw the warning, they knew they were all pracs that were already made up so OKAY with that. Not the HT yet. They'll all realise they only have 9 days to go soon!!!! Then end of term yah!!!

You could try CSA Glencore Mine in Cobar NSW 0268365100 I'm sure they wouldn't mind sending you some if you explain it's for Educational purposes.

Let me know how you go. Cheers

In the past I've taken a photo, then put in the fridge over the weekend upside down so no condensation.

Equipment - button batteries

Hi Brains trust, I've just tried to order new pH meters from 2 different suppliers and have been told they are no longer able to sell to schools or the general public because of new government legislation regarding button batteries. I'm in a NSW private school our suppliers are generally Victoria, h...

Re: Experiment gone wrong

Thanks Bigmack, it is nice to know what the DET schools are doing. I don't refer to the old CSIS at all any more, so out of date, we use Riskassess. That's our bible now a days, if I really get stuck and can't find an answer on here. I send Phillip Crisp an email.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Our lower Year 8's did it in 6 groups, inside. with small quantities in a evaporating dish. A very experienced teacher; she poured the metho and lit each one. All done safely and successfully after a full risk assessment was done.

Yep private school too. That's the sort of fridge/freezer we already have but because of the difficulty getting dissections as soon as they are used I start trying to replace. A chest freezer as well would be good but we just don't have the room.
