There's a book of lab notes that go with this text. Try to track down a copy - I've found it saves a lot of time. When the teachers get in, I'll try to find the lab notes and get back to you.

There are no instructions for disposal of fibreglass on RiskAssess (but it is listed under equipment), so I guess putting it in the bin is fine. It does say stuff about handling with gloves and masks. (Edit) Chemwatch says "Store in cool, dry, protected area. Dispose of this material and its co...

Heart attack day
Casual teacher taking a science class. "Miss, can we open the petri dishes? We can't see because of the condensation." Teacher didn't know any better, so they opened exposed plates. When I found out, I booted them out of the room for a bit, opened the windows, turned on the fans and spraye...

Vandalism is a shocking waste and and a crime against the environment. It is much harder to create rather then destroy - make creation the challenge, not senseless destruction.

Our quadrats (there's no "n") come apart at the corners, conveniently. They're just dowel rods held together with tubing at each join.

Re: how do you identify classroom glassware
Same, all glassware is in prep.room ordered with pracs through RiskAssess. Kids have to rinse free of residue before teacher returns to prep. room. 90% of pracs go out on trollies our prep. room is central to labs. Bunsen, tripod, gauze, heat mat, retort stand, boss head, clamp and test tube racks ...

Investigating a metallic element Pearson 10 p. 127 The teacher thinks the agar should be clear after addition of the AgNO3, but ours is going a purple gray colour. Anyone know about this?

Re: Potassium Permanganate Disposal
Googled this - MnO4−(aq)+H2O2(aq) = Mn2+(aq)+O2(g) It did say it needed to be an acidic environment, so the vinegar was important. I saw someone put vitamin C in KMnO4 and it went colourless. I think this is also the KMnO4 being reduced to Mn ions. I'm still not convinced I need to do anything other...
