Re: cuvette jammed in the spectrophotometer

Thanks heaps - that information was helpful. Took us awhile to work out how to remove the wavelength knob as we had to notice that the top of the knob comes off to reveal a screw. Cuvette now removed and spectro all back together. Hopefully it still actually works.

cuvette jammed in the spectrophotometer

Hi all We have had a bright spark put the cuvette the wrong way in the spectrophotometer. Apparently this is not the first time this has happened but this time it is really jammed. Has anyone got any suggestions apart from pulling the whole thing apart which I am reluctant to do? The model is Spectr...

But mercury was so fun to play with many years ago.... Nothing wrong with me  :w00t:

We still have a few in the drawer - they have not been used in the 18years I have been here.

Re: Quadrant storage

The pipe is 20mm. It came in 4m lengths from Bunnings. Pretty cheap to make a set. I have not purchased the elastic cord yet for this lot. I know last time I had some trouble finding suitable cord but eventually found it at a camping shop. Haven't spend the time looking yet.

ammeters / voltmeters

I'm needing to purchase some more meters. Any suggestions of where to get good quality meters? We're wanting the bench type analogue meters but it looks as though they may be being phased out for digital models.

Re: Quadrant storage

I made ours with PVC electrical pipe, corner connections and elastic cord running through them. So no they do not have dividers. We now have a set of ten which are hard to keep nicely together. I actually made a bag for the first lot a made a few years ago, with a backpack strap to make it easier to...

Re: data loggers

We ended up going with Vernier. My HoD managed to get some of the cost from Capital budget due to our previous loggers basically becoming obsolete due to the school changing over from PC to Mac's. The teachers have been very happy with Vernier and we are purchasing a few more items this year.

storage of separating funnels

Good morning all Looking for ideas on storage of separating funnels. We have only had a few so they have been in a drawer but with an expected big increase in Chemistry students next year, I have purchased a bunch more. They could do with a tidier, safer way to be stored. Thanks in advance. Kathryn :)

Thanks everyone. As it was actually for first aid I bought the nitrile gloves from Westlab - they seemed to have the best price.

Re: Potassium Permanganate Disposal

Hi all Looking for updated advice on potassium permanganate disposal. I have followed the Science Assist recommendations of adding 2M sulfuric acid then 10% sodium bisulfate but the colour has hardly reduced. So now I have gone from having 250mls 0.1M pot. permanganate to having about 2L - still dar...

Re: Hazardous Chemical Register

I have a soft copy SDS for hand sanitiser and list it in the register. However I don't provide a copy of the SDS in every classroom. For things like flyspray, I now choose to have the SDS for one brand and let that cover all brands. I can't see I am ever going to get staff to only purchase one brand...
