Re: Hydrogen peroxide

Sue, I make up the pH solutions and students add a fixed amount of buffer and H2O2 in each t/tubes, We did liver and potato cores and work well.
If you like I can give you recipe, very easy.

Yes, it is allowed for 11-12. Dont like using it, it is chlorinated hydrocarbon, possible carcinogen, and depleteds ozone layer.

Re: Bunsen Burners

I agree with Mardi,
kids come here from yr4, and it is the same. We have to make sure, that they dont overlap too much. I heard a dvd for yr5 today with fractional distillation!! All about long chain hydrocarbons etc. Really, what will they do in yr 10-12?

Re: Chemwatch problems

I have the same problem. We had been using chemgold and last term changed over to chemFFX and I had no problem using my old names, but this week cannot log on. Our school received email saying all schools have to change to chemFFX, but we had done that months ago. I have contacted AIS but had no ans...

Re: Holidays

Congrats Noona,
Bob and your mother in law are looking after little Violet.
Smiley, now now, I told you I DID NOT get sick, even self inflicted. Alcohol was too expensive to chuck it in the toilet.
Seriously, it was just perfect.
Are you back at work?

Re: Holidays

Well, just got back to work and the cruise was FANTASTIC. I did take tablets the first 2 days as the weather was a bit rough sailing out of Sydney, but did not get sick. Was well able to enjoy cocktails and all the unbelievable food.
We will do it again!!

Re: COPPER NITRATE - SOLID

Not sure if it is worth it, but you could dissolve it all in hot water boil it down and re-crystallize.
I have in past tapped the plastic container with hammer to loosen the chemical and then put between sheets of paper and roll it wirh glass bottle or again hammer.

Re: Holidays

We have booked a totally-not-like-me holiday. Going on PO cruise to Noumea, isle of pines and 2 more island. It is only for 9 days, as hubby and I are not sure, what to expect. We have always owned a sailing boat, so have done a lot of sailing on "inland waters". We have never gone past the...

Re: Boiling Metho

Just thought of something. Last time we used very little metho, each student heated his own (about 10mL) and I boiled water in kettle, poured it into beaker, place small 50mL beaker with metho inside the larger and in no time at all it boiled. Since boiling point is about 78oC it will boil in boilin...
