Re: ALERT Manganese Dioxide
It has definitely changed from a Yellow MSDS to a RED MSDS on 4/8/11. The new MSDS states that it "May cause CANCER". I have just removed the green dots from the 10 bottles in my store and replaced the green dots with RED dots. My HOD suggests that we should get rid of most (if not all) of...

Dee, I have not used a USB oscilloscope, but we have a nifty computer program that we use here called "Wave Window" It basically gives the display on the computer screen that you would get by connecting a microphone to an oscilloscope (which is the main thing our oscilloscope was ever used...

Re: Periodic Table
I have it figured! I noticed Amandags "Shoreham Accomodation Block", and the Canteen, in the photo's, along with an "Aquatic Centre" to rival the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre in Sydney. Since we are all migrating to Mentone anyway, why don't we just move the November Conference down...

Hmmm. To maintain that standard of cleanliness might take all three of you just to clean up after ME! (that leaves room for a couple more labbies to do all the class prep!!) Rosalie, if you set up that flight from Tamworth to Mentone, make sure that the plane is small enough to stop at Camden Airpor...

Merilyn, I have been resisting Microsoft and its evil hoards since 1984. I could not possible surrender to them now! Besides, on last count, Apple Computer Corporation has actually outstripped Microsoft Corporation in terms of companies net worth. Apple continues to rise. Microsoft continues to slow...

Re: Chemical Register
As a private school, we use the Denbigh Admin Data Base package which has a Chemical Stocktake function. I use that. I have tried to set up a manifest using ChemFX, as it seems like it might have several advantages, but have never managed to get it to work. We are a Mac based school, and the ChemGol...

Re: Periodic Table
We have large laminated charts that we pin to the wall with drawing pins or velcro. I guess if you really wanted to hang it from a hook, you could drawing pin it to a dowel and tie string to the end of the dowel.

Re: Lead class 9 how long????????????
can we still use it in science? we use lead electrodes for electricity.... DG 9 is "Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods". It is just a hodge podge of everything that they could not put in any other category. I think (from memory) that Copper Sulfate is also DG 9. I think we are all pretty caref...

Re: Lead class 9 how long????????????
I have just looked it up on Chemfx. The issue date for the latest MSDS is 29/12/2010.That has Lead as DG 9. My printed copy (on File) was from 2009, and it was Non Dangerous then. That is why I keep telling my staff that printing out MSDS books for all our chemicals is useless, because they can chan...

Hi Katie, There is the old "Black Can and White Can" one where you either paint some soft drink cans white and some black and put a thermometer into each can and stick them in the sun for a while. The black can should get hotter. The thermometer should be suspended so that it does not touc...

Sounds like we are acquiring a lot of sophisticated equipment for a prac that only goes for about a week each year. I wonder if you are allowed to use all this brewing equipment for other purposes during the rest of the year? I wonder what we could brew up? (Hic!) Maybe we could bring samples along ...

Smee,
Does the Tax Dept recognise ASET-NSW as a "Professional Association" as far as tax deductibility of membership fees is concerned? eg, teachers can claim their STANSW membership as a tax deduction.

It's been a few years since I had tropical fish, but I think the temp was set to around 30oC. The heater had a little screw thermostat that would let you adjust the temp up or down a few degrees either side of that. What temperature was Nicky needing for her water bath? Because the little fishes liv...
