Re: new association for NSW Labbies

Hi Lisa,
Yes I am getting the school to pay under the professional development budget.
I just told them it would give me the opportunity to learn more and they were fine with it.

Thank you to those people who have worked hard to get this up and running.
I have already taken my forms down to the office for payment and posting.

Re: Heat Conductivity - Ball and Ring

Yes, it was silly of me to think the teacher would think about what they were doing.
You're right I won't do that again.

Re: Heat Conductivity - Ball and Ring

We also have some that work each way so I let the teachers sort it out. One teacher however put all the hot ones in a plastic tray to send back to the prep room. I now have a couple so deeply melted into the plastic tray I can't get them out. Didn't seem to occur to her that hot metal might melt the...

Re: Job for a fellow Labbie

Rhonda,
If you go back a few topics there is a job at a school in Darlinghurst.
I guess this may be too far but she might want to look at it.
Closing date is 9th March.

Re: Fume cupboard maintenance

Someone turns up to test our fume cupboards every year without us organising it so I guess this is a DET requirement. It's a bit scary how often there was something wrong with the old ones we had so worth getting them checked. When they found problems they didn't fix them though just told us not to ...

Re: Elephant's Toothpaste

I have only done this in 2L coke bottles so not sure about the volumetric flask. Not very elephant size as you say. I showed my daughter, who is primary school teacher, this and she did it for science day with year 2. She told them how the zoo had phoned to get her to make it for the new baby elepha...

Re: Zinc sulphate

Hi Dime,
I have a 5% solution made up. The teacher wants a .1M solution and I have run out of solid.
I told her it was about 1.6 just working it out in my head but she wanted an exact figure and I am not sure how to do this.

Re: Gas problems

Eventually they did find the leak after digging up part of the floor and taking out sections of the wall. The new vinyl on the floor is a slightly different colour to the rest but other wise not too bad. It took them ages to find and then repair it so we had lots of disrupted classes and no gas to t...

I was shocked when I heard this on the news.
Are experiments using blood not banned everywhere?
I hope they are all OK.
