Hot Equipment

Morning Brains Trust, How does everyone go about getting the kids to remove hot beakers full of liquid and tripods to put away? We generally let them cool for a few minutes while they are writing up results; then pack up. We have never had an accident. Does anyone use heat gloves? one stored at each...

Oh no

Another Tik Tok one I was told about during the holidays was RAT tests. Kids in the US are using cranberry juice to draw a second line on tests to show parents so they can stay home. How do they think of these things.

Re: Mopping the ceiling, anyone?

Back in the 80's I worked in a commercial lab (fruit Juice), I came back from lunch and the pressure cooker had been used to make plum jam (YUK MICRO PLATES) the lid was embedded in the ceiling with plum jam from A to B. The Chemist just looked at my and laughed gave me the afternoon off, the guy wh...

Hi Bigmack

That one is better than the one I have for Bromine in Situ. Does it hold it's colour or do you have to make up fresh each time?

Re: what weird/quirky things do your teachers ask of you?

Morning Everyone, These Stile pracs are doing my head in! And I agree with Merilyn1 about food wastage. There are days when I ask myself are we science or are we food tech! Next week we are going into Oreo Moon Phases... I ask you, do we really need to supply so many Oreo biscuits that we buy the s...

Re: how do you identify classroom glassware

Same, all glassware is in prep.room ordered with pracs through RiskAssess. Kids have to rinse free of residue before teacher returns to prep. room. 90% of pracs go out on trollies our prep. room is central to labs. Bunsen, tripod, gauze, heat mat, retort stand, boss head, clamp and test tube racks a...

Thanks Merilyn I couldn't agree more, but you have given something else I hadn't thought of; Year 8 fine balance of ecosystems. Thanks It helps sometimes just to get another point of view. I'm sure they dream up some of these ideas without even thinking about how and why, just makes me out to be the...
