Re: preserving insects

Our kids did the same thing a few years ago. I had a heap of old glass peri dishes, so with PVA glue I stuck them down, then glued the lid down it dry clear. Numbered + laminated sheet describing each insect in detail. Year 7 use them now mostly. They can't shake or pull them apart. :cheesy: Spiders...

Re: csis

The on guard system is used alot in TAS departments, as of next year it will include science. If you google it, it has alot of SOP more O.H.&S issues. I can't see that it is going to be able to replace, (or legalities) CSIS. :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: Sorry about the spelling. Nationally accross...

Re: Do you give your opinion?

Considering some of the hair brained ideas some teachers come up with, I think we have every right to ask questions.
The saying goes never upset the cook.
Around here it's don't upset the labby.

Just wondering if anyone else out there in the Catholic / Private sector has been told they won't be following the CSIS manual anymore, but taking on the "On Guard system"

Re: Corrosive cupboards

I dont know about the regulations in NSW but up in the NT we have to have a "shelf or cuboard lined with a corrosion resistant material" the easiest way to achieve this is to have a pre made corrosives cabinet. I have a small one that was bought at the begining of last year and the rust i...

Re: Mercury Spill

Imagine the cost, what ever happened to using sulfur to clean up. Plus didn't we have to get rid of all the mercury thermometers. Gee I can remember being given a mercury by the science teacher and hitting back and forth along the science bench with a ruler. That just shows how old I am!!!!!! :chees...

Re: Intoduction to Data Loggers for laboratory support staff

I went last year too, it was very good. I found it to be a bit of a sale pitch. However, I ditched the vernier and purchased the ezilog which is so simple to use. Teaching some of the teachers has proved to be a little harder. But would highly recommend going, that was how I learnt about this site. ...

Re: spiny leaf insects

hi Kel, some of mine hatched a couple of weeks ago and are doing fine, I've been feeding them on the gum trees out the front of the school, (I can go for a smoke at the same time) The only thing that I'm a bit worried about is the holidays I have to take them home, hopefully a change in diet is not ...

I use mine in the prep. room for scalpel blades, the ones in the labs are for display only the kids can get the blades out if they try hard enough. So everything is returned to me for disposal.

Re: How much are we supposed to do?

Hi All, On top of all the other jobs mentioned, do you find yourself asked, or feeling obliged to clean benches (i.e. graffiti), sinks and all the other crap that seems to accumulate in science labs. :yuck: because we have old labs, the kids are sitting next to sinks and gas taps to fiddle and poke...
