Re: Lighting Bunsens

We tried refillable BBQ lighters but gave up. Best matches I have found are Samba, from Bunnings. I even heard a kid raving about the quality of the matches in a prac last week! I put 4 matches in a box, and an elastic band around 5 boxes. Makes it easy to count out, and I usually get them all back ...

Re: Neutralise.. Sink.. Bin.. Waste.. ????

It's a great reference document, thanks Labbie! I am not sure how to get rid of iodine (solid) in kerosene (solution). The solution is a light brown colour and has a few small solid pieces of iodine settled at the bottom. Using the spread sheet: 23 - Kerosene Solution - Evaporate and Garbage. 16 - I...

Re: Laboratory Manual

Thanks, labratscience, I had not heard of CLEAPSS, what a great resource. I found a video which shows how to put a piece of glass tubing in a rubber stopper, makes it look so easy!

Scalpel handles and blades

Re: EVA Tubing

Be warned that you heat it in near-boiling water in order to shape it. Which means that you can't use it for all applications or else it loses its shape! I made some delivery tubes for the Pasteur experiment and they flopped spectacularly when the broth was boiled!

Re: Chalk

Found this thread yesterday and it saved my life - the Aspro Clear works perfectly! Much more effective (as well as a lot easier in every respect) than the chalk and HCl! Now to start preparing about 200 setups for Year 8. Thank you - once again ChemTalk to the rescue :D
