Re: Upgrading of 800 science laboratories (NSW public schools on
Hi Noona I would love some pics if possible as you are just a little bit to far away. How is the prep room, did you get the compactors and how do you find them. My email is kim.e.lawlor@education.nsw.gov.au if that is easier for you to do some photos. I am so looking forward to getting our labs done...

Re: Upgrading of 800 science laboratories (NSW public schools on
thanks Richard,
You have answered just about any question that could have been asked regarding the upgrades.
Just have to wait for a starting date now and then the big clean outs will start.

Hi Linda, As far as I am aware all equipment eg beakers test tubes etc we will still use old stock. It is the structure of the rooms desks/chairs that are been demolished or removed. Which I know in our case we will utilise through out our own school. Will let you know if it is going to be any diffe...

that is a good idea printing them on the correct colour page. Would make life that bit much easier when needing to use the MSD to know what colour it is. Thanks for a great tip.

I also claim a percentage of internet at home for looking up experiments etc. Also some stationary items, laundry, shoes, glasses, lab coat, a bag, uniform if it is embroided with school logo, travel, and anything else that my accountant thinks of at the time. It is best to keep a list of whatever y...

Re: Dropper bottles
I have changed most of ours over to the plastic squirt type of bottle. Less damage to the soloutions I have found. Still use amber glass bottles for some solutions. To stop the rubber from going hard on the lid I smear a very small amount of potroleum Jelly on the plastic - seems to work. Some how t...

Re: Maintenance Schedule
If something is returned to the preproom it is placed in the broken tray and each sports day I see what I can repair and I fix it and designate the other items to the correct staff member for repairs. At the end of each term I go through the storerooms and check anything that looks broken and get it...

Re: Microwave ovens
We have a microwave in our prep room and we use it for a few things -
such as Agar plates and melting chocolate for chocolate fossils. I would recomend one for any Science department. Also they are good for a hot chocolate on a cold morning .

We use 3% for most of these but 15% for a few of the experiments. Your teacher should know the % needed for the experiment.

Re: Voltameter & Sulfuric Acid
We only ever use between .5M and 2 M acid for this. I never let the concentrate go out for student pracs. The teachers may use them for demonstration but that is all to many hazards with giving students concentrates we avoid this whenever possible.
