Bench Tops
After all these years I'm finally able to have the bench tops in the Prep Room replaced. If anyone has had theirs replaced recently I would love to know what you chose and whether you are happy with it. Anything 100% stain resistant and chemical resistant would be perfect but I guess there...

Re: building/prep room inspections
Last year we had the Board of Studies inspectors come to check the school for our 5 yearly accreditation. The main things they looked for in Science were the coloured dots and labels on the chemical bottles and the lip on the edge of the shelving in the chem store. They also asked about the school's...

I should have added HSC for the Conquering Chemistry books.
Thanks anyway John but we really need the 3rd edition.
I've given you some karma for your trouble.

Re: PPE
The aprons from Apron Makers are much better than the fabric variety. They are are acid proof & very durable, in 3 or 4 years I haven't had to replace any. They do look a bit dowdy (grey) but are a really good investment. I just give mine a wipe over every now & then with a damp cloth. :thum...

Re: Antibiotic master rings
Hi Pommy,
We've been using Mastrings from Southern Bio for a few years now with no problems at all.
I store them in the fridge & the last packet of 50 I received lasted for about 3 years.
Good luck
Judy

Re: screened methyl orange colour chart?
Barb, I have a recipe for screened methyl orange that we use regularly. Methyl orange - 1.0g Indigo carmine - 2.5g Dissolve powders in 1L distilled water. Filter before use. pH range 2.9 (purple) - 4.6 (dark green). The colour change is much clearer than normal methyl orange, though the shelf life i...

Perhaps Nicole means silicone putty aka sili putty or bouncing putty. It behaves like a solid as well as a liquid. We have some here that was purchased from Govt Stores many moons ago. I think one of our teachers made slime recently that had similar characteristics & I could get more info if requ...

Rosalie,
I used soluble starch last week but I don't think it really matters which one you use.
I mix the powder into a slurry with a little cold water then add boiling water, but you could also use a microwave.
Good luck with that prac

Hi Liz, I've printed it out for my recipe file & given it to the Bio teacher too. The prac is for this afternoon & I won't have time to prepare the egg suspension, so we'll just go with the amylase this time. I will definitely be ordering fresh pepsin for next year. Do you know the differenc...
