Anyone seen the risk assess comments for Masking tape?
Potential hazards.
Do not tape over mouth or nose, or use as a restraint.
Wondered why I had numerous requests for masking tape.

Re: Food in labs
Think I would rather take a chance with my prep room rather than put my food in the staff fridge. There are some serious experiments going on in there sometimes

Re: What the ....!!!!????????
Teachers here are frustrated because they keep getting the reports sent back with red lines through them saying they have to be more positive and they can't write what they would really like to say. What they can say... what they would like to say ____ is a good communicator... = talks too much in c...

Re: How big is it?
I can relate to this. I usually get the cow hearts from the met works, try fitting 32 of them in the fridge. Was great when there was a teacher here that had greyhounds, not so good here now, trying to dispose of them. I also had to get 10 kidneys last year at short notice, so I headed off to coles ...

Re: risk assessements for science focus textbooks
Hi again, Have had a couple of request for the risk assessments for science focus. If you have a look at page 4 of this thread about the 3rd post down I put an attachement with the risk assessments in it. If that doesn't work then let me know. The files have to be "unzipped" whatever that ...

Re: Eye Dissection
I tend to send out surgical scissors, scalpels might be better because of the membrane, but the disposable scalpels I have at the moment are a bit dodgy and seem to break easily. Not sure if anyone else is having the same problem, it doesn't seem to take much pressure before they snap. Ones I had be...

Re: Flammable cupboards
I wouldn't put the flammable cupboard anywhere except in a chemical storeroom. I agree with dime the fumes can knock you out sometimes. Hence the vented storage that I now have in mine.

Re: SLINKY STORAGE
I sent out 4 slinkys of normal length for the lesson and one has come back over 1.5 Meters long! I was going to chuck it out but after discussion and trying it out with another teacher we decided that it actually demonstrates waves rather well. Not that I am suggesting stretching your slinkys out bu...

Re: Ruben's tube
We had a discussion on this at our last staff meeting, but decided that the risk assessment outweighed actually making and using it. I would be interested to hear how you get on with it. I have a teacher here that find the most "interesting" things on youtube and then comes and puts in ord...

I think I know where you are coming from David. I thought when I got this job that I was here until I retired but now after 6 years I'm not so sure. I was going to do extra study through tafe ect to do with laboratory skills but no matter what certificates you have we all get paid the same. I like t...

Re: venting of cabinets/chemical storage in hot weather
Hi All, Yes the flammable and corrosive cupboards can be vented. I didn't do a follow up on this, but last year after being on workers comp for health reasons because of the fumes from these cupboards in my chem store. The DET added another ventilation system to the whole room and replaced the flamm...

I have someone in for me every second friday and before that started, I took the time to do a basic daily job list. This is what I typed up for her. Tasks for the day. (basic.) This is a general idea on the day to day itinery, other things will probably crop up but don't panic. MORNING- Every day. U...

Can anyone tell me if there is an online short course for the csis? Possible through the det portal, I thought I saw it mentioned but can't find it even after searching. I have someone who works every second friday here for me, and I need to get them to do the CSIS. My head teacher who usually does ...

Does anyone know the best way to dispose of 20L plus of photographic developer chemicals that I came across during stocktake. The art teacher usually transports is in her car to the local council tip but is getting sick of doing it, not to mention that she shouldn't be doing it. Someone from OH&...

Re: horse blood
Where is he going to get horse blood from anyway? I would be suprised if you could use blood of any type, I was under the impression that we weren't allowed to. Actually if you look in the csis section 3.2.61 Human blood, tissue and fluid.(section 3.2 pg 57) It says. Human blood, blood products (oth...
