Re: Rockets

Hi Had my 14 year old son help me with diet coke in hot water and the mentos in freezer out in the backyard. He was quite excited to help. We put the diet coke in hot water. My son raced back to me not long after, worried that the bottle would explode as the bottle became very hot and the bottle loo...

Re: Rockets

Hi everyone Thanks for your help. You have given me some great ideas. The class yesterday tried the mentos in coke anyway. Nothing happened. Tried the quikeze and coke. Little fizz. Tried vinegar and bicarb. Reacted too quickly or students too slow, but still got the idea. Tried alka seltzer and wat...

Rockets

Hi everyone We are doing rocket experiments starting today. They will be doing variations of the "rocket" chemistry. One variation is using mentos and coke. I have tried this before and found it not to work. Quikeze worked a little better. Do you have to scrape the sides of the mentos for ...

Electronic balances

Hello everyone
I need some advice on electronic top-pan balances please. (weigh up to 2kg or so with 0.1g div) Does anyone use Adam balances? Are they reliable?? Or, is there another brand you recommend that isn't too pricey?
Thanks

Re: Enzyme prac Y11-12

Hi
We did the liver and peroxide test yesterday. Teacher was very happy with the prac. It worked well. We used 5%, 10% and 25% strength Hydrogen Peroxide.

Hi Everyone
All new staff here (lab, office) over the last 2 years work all year round with 4 weeks leave at Christmas. This is a catholic school in NSW.
Enjoy your break or uninterrupted work as the case may be!

Mercury spills

Hi everyone
Curious to know what procedures you have in place and/or kits you use, should you have an accident with mercury. Have you had to used them?

Hi, I am working in the Wollongong Diocese (Catholic school system). I have 4 weeks holidays at Christmas. There is always plenty to do.... repairs, stocktakes, filing, budgets, purchases, sorting reference materials, textbooks, and the never ending cleaning and tidying. The upside is I now have an ...

Hi Xenon
What other household chemicals do you use?
We only prepare and use the red cabbage indicator. Would be pleased to know of any other home-maade indicators. The chemicals we use are things like shampoos, bottled lemon juice and dilute bleach.
Cheers,
Rita
