Re: Bee Hive

Just outside one of our Labs , some Native Bees made a hive underground . Native Bees can't harm you . One of our teachers is into native Bees so he built a hive Box to encourage the bees out of their underground Hive . The kids are quite fascinated by them . every so often he opens it to see inside...

Re: Plastic trays

Been Googling ABS . Apparently its glass transition temp is 105 degC so I guess if your dishwasher was very hot , close to 100deg , it's quite possible it may start to deform . Likewise , if your dishwasher doesn't run quite as hot , say around the 80 deg Mark , it wouldn't effect it .

Re: Plastic trays

Thanks for the Photographic developing trays . They certainly do look like that's what they were . Interestingly, all the ones available nowadays have a pouring spout molded into the corner .

They certainly are a lot cheaper than the ABS ones available from Haines or SCA.

Plastic trays

Hi all , we have these plastic dissection trays . They are dated 1986 but are still as good as the day they were made . Looking to get some more as they seem to be very handy for setting ISRP pracs ready , unfortunately I never seem to have enough. Been looking around and can't seem to find anything...

Re: Safe disposal of Pasteur's experiment flasks

I open them in a bucket of bleach . You could wear gloves when you do it , I don't . Hold them under with one hand , pull out the stopper with the other . If you do it slowly , Bleach fills the inside ,and the air inside has to bubble up through the bleach to get out . Then I just wash them as normal.

I'm pretty sure it was salicylic acid that our Chem teacher used last year . he'd never used it before . Next minute , I'm driving the Physics teacher around to the ER ( hospital is only 500m up the road) with a bad Asthma reaction . This year he didn't use it , no issues from the physics teacher . ...

Re: Heating Mantles

We got one of these off Serrata and the teachers have been happy with it so far. heating Mantle.JPG Note: it has a Power controller not a Temperature controller .Despite saying Temp adjust on the front . This in my opinion is a better option than a temp controller . Why, ...because when teachers who...

Re: Malus' Law apparatus

I think we did this last year . We still had some old optical tracks from years ago . Put a Light box at one end , a Datalogger with Lux sensor ( probably could have used a regular Lux meter ) at the other and used a IEC Polaroid Filter ( HL1883-060) in between . I think they plotted Lux against the...

That's what I did too Maria .

Incidentally , the new MTA catalogue arrived yesterday and I looked up the switch and sure enough they have the same deceiving picture .

Had a similar problem last year . Pic in Catalogue showed a Switch that was labelled with OBB ……we've had them before and they were good . When my parcel arrived they were a Chinese copy . One screw instead of two holding the lever so it could easily loosen and be turned out of alignment and the spr...
