Re: Labbies Conference St Mary's 2011

Hi,Does anyone know,
Will there be anyone to talk/join from the ASET group. This will be handy so that we can ask questions etc.
Maybe a desk with the rep's from the science company's?????
Would be handy to gain members and for those who don't know much about the organisation..
Thanks Trish.

Re: PD day on chemical security

Grrrr :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: It's not fair that there is no clear information on what has to be done, for those who were unable to attend the course!! In my network of Lab Tech's, not one person had heard or knows anything about GHS! You can read certain sights on the internet but it's not...

Re: Can you reheat Sodium tetraborate?

Yes I usually collect the crystals that form in the bottom of the beaker, allow to dry and reuse the next time we make borax crystals.
Though i must admit that the used borax i add more to the beaker than the first time use, just to be sure it works.

Re: Stationary

I sweet talk to my cleaners, and they bring any rulers/pens( working and not chewed)and other stationary to me, so i can recycle/use in the science area. They only generally throw them in the bin as they clean the rooms throughout the school. thats how I have cut down on stationary purchasing. But s...

Re: Ammonium nitrate

I'm in Taree, but I'd hate to borrow and never be able to replace it.
Well looks like we can't have that prac anymore. The teachers can surely come up with something else. I am looking into the instant ice packs, So far, most are ammonium nitrate free.
Thanks, Trish

Re: What is your shelving like?

At my school we have the corrosives and flammables in proper cupboards and the rest are on shelves (made of chipboard) (which I hate!), I have been trying to collect glass to put on the chipboard as I have seen at other schools, but its a slow process. I have no chemicals in my preproom, all are in ...

Re: corn flour speaker monster

when we do this sometimes you just have to play with the corn flour at first, sometimes the runnier works best and sometimes a little dry. so spend the time with that. And while you test it just play with the tempo/ audio settings on the sound generator. Thats how we always set it up, but as i said ...

It's a series so part 2 will be on next week.

chemical storage at ag farms

I have checked Csis,...

Re: Upper high school equipment wish list

I would add a good set of molecular model kits for them, as well as good glass measuring cylinders, volumetric flasks. and water bottles(juniors seem to destroy them here)
25ml Pipettes and bulbs, check that you have all the equipment for titrations.... :D :D

As a Prac one of my teachers does is they make pizzas. But they book out a home ec room for this and they have to arrange the toppings as the cell. To make it better the kids have to bring in the toppings so they have to do the thinking!
