The wheely crates are the best thing since sliced bread and are not that expensive. I got mine from a storage specialty shop for about $35 each and have seen them since at stationery shops and even cheapo shops for about $28. Maximum capacity is about 35kg I think.

Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone out there has done a demo, simulation or whatever for the Yr 12 EES class on hydrothermall vents ("black smokers"). I did one years ago, but I forget how I did it (and didn't write anything down!!).
I'll be grateful for any help.

Hi All,
I did this prac with bog-standard agar-agar and it worked an absolute treat. I used the 5 batteries and used M&M's as my colour source. Will get the kids to try it for Science Week demo maybe.

Tiny bit of sticky tape and a whole lot of swearing - gold leaf is lighter than dust and just as hard to pin down. Best of luck!!

They would be for Pasteur's Experiment. Have a look in GOOGLE images and there are some examples there. A good one is at HowStuffWorks.

I've had (a bit) more success using an LED.

You can just buy Powdered Borax in the laundry aisle at the supermarket - comes in a white 500g jar with a red lid.

For safety and ease, use the ready-made Bromine water; some things are just not worth the risk.
The shelf-life of Br water is reasonable, and it's not expensive.

Re the Biuret test; I use sodium carbonate instead of sodium hydroxide - gives a better result and is safer to use.
