Re: Welcome back everyone

My Coordinator and I had a similar theory. That someone has raced back in to put it away and thumped it a bit too hard, causing a slight crack. Then with a bit of pressure - ka-pop. We restrict who can access the chem store but I did have a heap of time off last year. It hasn't happened before, than...

Re: Welcome back everyone

My ones from Adelab have a finger hole piece next to the opening. Think Jug Band style. (And for a laugh, or maybe make you cry - I'm never sure which- Look for the Christmas Jug Band singing "Daddy's Drinking Up Our Christmas". It is appalling and I am always, always confused about how I ...

Re: Welcome back everyone

That's 2 winchesters I have heard this happening to in the last 3 months... never in my life as a lab tech has that happened before. I would suggest everyone check their old bottles. Maybe they are not as good as they used to be. I'm also going to be checking each new bottle before it gets put into...

Re: Welcome back everyone

And as a delayed welcome back, I thought we had a waste bottle with kerosene in it has leaked a little. When I went to move the other bottles off the shelf to sort it out and clean it up, I discovered that the organic waste bottle was completely shattered at the base. It must have happened over the ...

Maybe they just hit the ground and kept running, away... Welcome back!! that's exactly how I felt. Sadly still here. Arrived first day back and Fridge/freezer full of Dissection had gone off!! OMG this is the second time in 29years. Hopfully I never see it again. Our maintenance men removed from th...

It has been quiet here this year. I'm also a bit in the same boat in terms of isolation.

Hahaha!! Sorry, I didn't google any further than that it changes colour
Well, we have had some hot weather lately :giggle:

Re: Do you use a diary?

I love my diary. We use Riskassess for ordering pracs, but for my personal organisation, I would be lost without my own diary. I have two roles (Science and WHS) so it is really easy to forget things. I've found some organiser diaries that have a week on one page and on the opposite a page for makin...

Re: making cell models

Never tried it but I'd imagine it would taste pretty bad even with all the lollies floating in it. I used to make jelly for my son when he was a little tacker using fruit juice and gelatine. Maybe you could try cordial or something like that if it works out cheaper. Fill the kids up on sugar then se...

Google the brand name. Most companies have their user manuals on line. Or, share the brand name here and someone else may have the same one.

Thanks for this Bigmack. I've only had a chance to look at those instructions today and it explains why I have never attached a photo! Maybe my future will be different :)

Re: testing for microbes

Fair call, Rosalie. There was a lot of discussion quite a few years ago about students not being allowed to swab anything and having to grow peppercorn broth or something weird. It was a misinterpretation of CSIS which advised against sub-culturing anything growing on agar plates. However, I think S...

Re: nickel sulfate

We go by RiskAssess as well. CSIS hasn't been updated for decades, the Dept must be waiting for a legal case before they start?? It's bound to happen, one day, sadly. Had to laugh at this, but it isn't really a laughing matter! I went to a general WHS course run by AIS and, can you believe, they sa...

Re: Free elements sets for schools

Apologies is I sound slightly cranky, but after loading and labelling ca. 60K samples, and assembling 1600 sets across two rounds of sets (including the last bit I need to do over summer), most of it personally, it does start to annoy me when I have to wade through more than 1000 orders currently o...

Thank you Stuart. They are really clever and already popular. I was on leave when they arrived. Haven't had much time to look at them and was certainly unaware of the website! So, thank you for the extra information.

Love your work :)
