Re: Help! Some of my distillation equipment won't come apart!
A HUGE thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I did try soaking it soapy water, heating it over a bunsen, oil around the rim etc.. Wouldn't you know it, it was the tap from a piece of wood that finally loosened it (thanks Robb). :yahoo: Then I accidently dropped the condenser on the floor, smas...

I would love to know how to do that.
Can you send or post instructions on how to do that? Pretty please?

Re: Gas problems
So far so good. There have been no more gas smells coming from the lab or prep room (except from the usual suspects ie students )

Re: Gas problems
What is it with new labs? :? We have a lovely newly reburbished lab and chemical prep/store room. It too had a gas problem - the smell of gas was extremely strong in the prep room on many occasions. We had the plumbers in 4 times before they isolated the problem and fixed it. I have ruined paint wor...

Help! Some of my distillation equipment won't come apart!
I have a round bottomed flask attached to a condenser that is so wedged in I can't pull it apart (lovely year 10 students  ). I have tried heating it over a bunsen in the hope that it would release it but no such luck. Please help, we can't afford to buy a new set of distillation equipment at t...

Re: 8 Week course
Hi Labgirl,
I heard of this around election time. Presumably this was an idea bandied about by one of the parties. I have not heard or read anything about it since though.

Re: How do you Organize Your Rocks & Minerals
I did reorganise my rocks last year. I did it in one big group of A-Z. Then one of the science teachers came along and said it should have been in a-z sedimentary, metamorphic etc. Rather than do it again I just hung a list of rocks in their correct groups (alphabetically of course) next to the rock...

Re: Equipment storage
I have several storage areas (as we are an older school where there are preprooms between two labs, then a store room, then two more labs with a prep room in between - times this by two). The book store room has all the common equipment such as microscopes, electrical kits etc on trolleys so they ar...

Re: microscopes
Hi Labbie, We purchased some microscopes 18 months ago from AIS. They were also from the buy 2 get 1 free offer. They seem to offer this about twice a year. We purchased stereo and monocular microscopes from them. They have been absolutely fantastic. They are not too heavy and bulky. I too have just...

Re: soap making
I have purchased the beef dripping and funnily enough it is called just that "Beef Dripping". You purchase it in the butter section of the dairy aisle. Thank you to everyone for your help and advice. It will be interesting to see how the soap turns out.

soap making
Hi everyone, I have been asked to set up a prac for making soap. This in itself is not a problem as we have made it several times before. However the teacher has requested beef dripping. Does anyone have any idea where I can purchase it from and what it would be called? I tried googling it but to no...
